I just picked up an old xgk. Just the stove, no pump. I don't know anything about it. I have not had one of these older ones before. It has a plastic base and a striker which looks like it will work. The cable is quite deep in the fuel line. Before I try and pull it out for a cleaning I thought I would ask here, if it is one that can be removed? Thanks
All sorted, the cable was the easiest I have ever pulled out. The stove run perfectly ( on unleaded petrol). I seems to run quieter than an xgk11 that I previously owned.
Your fuel line locking bail (the latching wire that grips the pump) is the old “tall style” for yellow or white pumps. The new black pump uses a “short style” locking bail that does not interfere with the black pump’s fuel valve. Your setup works fine as shown. There is nothing wrong with leaving it as-is. The tall wire just makes it harder to access the pump’s fuel valve. Several years ago I called MSR’s repair shop about purchasing replacement “short style” wire bails. I was converting my older MSR stoves to the new black pumps. MSR sent me a bag of “short style” wire bails and lock washers for free! I’ve always experienced excellent support from MSR.
Oh, I see that now. I have heard about MSRs great customer support in the USA. That is the pump off my whisper light. The backwards compatibility is a big plus.
These are the simplest, IMHO the best. If you love the stability of the XGK-II wires, they interchange. Otherwise, keep the friction rings tight against the stove to prevent water-divining-like actions in the legs. You should centre the wire over the generator loop. It's there to hold heat for "simmering ". I'm sure you know that a simmering XGK (or close relative) is the ultimate test of stovie manliness... or so I tell myself.
