Got an optimus 8 from France and it had this metal plate included. plate 1.jpg

Has evidence of being fired on both sides

And two notches which line up the the legs on the 8 heatshield.

    plate 3.jpg

All I can think of is a base for inside the case but too thick and doesn't fit when closed or an extended heatshield to protect the tank if a bigger pan was used.

It doesn't seem to be a windshield as the notches don't work with any other part.

Has anyone else come across a homemade add on like this and what is it for?

It looks like yours is to keep excessive heat off the tank.

    Thanks.
Yeah, seems to be the only way it would work. I won't be using it anyway.

    It would help if .......
You burn a long time with an oversize pot.

The drawback is the limited airflow to the tank when in use. Heat is still conducted through the fuel line.

I don't use pots or pans that over hang the tank on any stove anyway I'll keep the part but won't store it with the stove.
