Hi all… Found a nice Burmos at the weekend - minimal wear and will be a lovely stove when done but… … while the NRV loosened nicely it’s got (I think) a bit of lead washer under it and while it’s loose and rattling around it isn’t budging! I normally use a wooden skewer down the end but this one is being firmly held in! Any suggestions please? Best, Chris
Wait...ok so you put a tool down the pump shaft and loosened the NRV and it turns but will not come out because you might have a piece of the lead gasket holding it in there, but it still spins?
Some favour long forceps, I've always used a length of stiff steel wire with 3 or 4mm bent back on itself to form a hook. Poke hook into centre hole of the valve assembly to catch a hold, then pull it out.
I shall try that @Blackdog … luckily I do have a lot of suitable wire lying around. It’s just insanely frustrating… I’ll let you know how I get on C
It worked. NRV removed and cork pip exchanged… sadly though there’s a constant loss of pressure, which is a shame as otherwise it’s lovely. The trivet and windshield are from another Burmos that was in the queue… but yes, you can see that it’s in good nick I also acquired the SH&S one at the same time - it came in a box with a hand painted trivet (which feels cheap and nasty) and Primus windshield. They didn’t use heat resistant paint, making me wonder if it was for a shop display or something? Holds pressure nicely but outer cap shows signs of severe underburn and distortion. It also feels quite thin and cheap… anyway, there you are - the cost for both? £5 C
Pump tube I think… the pump is being forced out very slowly when in use. NRV was tight and worked well so I’m guessing a crack… C
They are … @Blackdog is your man for asking about that. The end caps are very very tight… I’ll look at the Burmos NRV tomorrow. I’d rather focus on the S&HS one for the time being as it’s a make I’ve not done anything with yet… just need to sort out that trivet!
It’s the pump tube - changed the NRV completely and resealed it and it’s still a loss of pressure. Balls… it looks virtually brand new too. Burmos strikes again!
@Automedon It's still worth a pressure test- even new NRV assemblies sometimes don't seal properly, it can take a bit of fiddling to make them reliable. Likewise there may be something stopping the NRV assembly sealing against the pump tube end- another lead washer still in place, damage, dirt etc. Try either pressurising and immersing, or chucking some diluted washing up liquid down the pump tube then draining it out- in either case, see where the bubbles come from. One method might be clearer than the other. If it is the pump tube you're unlucky- the Burmos No.1S and No.5S (the fixed leg 2-pint models) seem to be the least problematic models, that or I have been lucky myself! If it is the pump tube, bring it along to Newark and I'll stand over your shoulder in an unnerving manner while you learn to fix it, then you can keep acquiring and resurrecting wonky Burmii!
