@Christer Carlsson My apologies! I didn’t check what forum this thread was in, I assumed it was “fettling”. Humble pie. Tony
@Remus1956 - Thank you. They do come up for sale from time to time. Hopefully one will come your way sooner rather than later!
Very smart @Pharael. So often stoves in folding cases come up for sale 'restored', with new gloss paint only highlighting the rust pitting, which I personally think looks awful, I'd rather have rusty originality. But a quality restoration like this is a joy to behold!
@Blackdog - Many thanks for your very kind comments. Very wise words indeed which I fully agree with.
@Pharael Congratulations on a excellent well photographed fettle and restoration, the paint work on the case looks outstanding as well as all the brass work and the windshield has come up great which will now do a great job of reflecting heat away from the tank well done there
@mr optimus - very kind words, many thanks. As with all restorations of this kind, preparation is always the key element and of course, the most labour intensive part. Now where did I put that jar of elbow grease…
Nice work. I recently missed out on a 22 because I lacked the time for a quick road trip. They are rare in my part of the world so this was big miss.
@Pharael this inspired me to make my own electrolysis tank. DUDE...Here I have been using airplane paint remover and gloves this whole time. I put a somewhat trashed Optimus 8r box in it...and 6 hours later there was no rust or paint left! That had the be the easiest job. Old dog learned a new trick...thanks man
@Remus1956 You are very welcome my friend . E-bathing does make paint & corrosion removal a whole lot easier for sure. Look forward to seeing your Optimus 8R once you’ve completed it. Pharael.
