We have had a response from Primus as follows:

There are two parts that need to work together to be able to build pressure.
it is the leather gasket and the non-return-valve in the bottom of the pump.

The leather needs to be flexible as it should collapse and let air pass in the up stroke,
and expand and seal so no air passes in the down stroke.

The silicon grease gets absorbed in the leather and it will make it flexible, but there is not reason to over lubricate and have excess grease.

It is important that the leather gasket is shaped as a cup, downwards over the end nut,
and also when it is inserted into the pumps cylinder make sure that the edge of the gasket is angled a bit out so that it gets in contact with the cylinder wall.

The non-return-valve in the bottom, should open briefly at the end of the pump stroke when the air in the cylinder has gotten compressed,
and then close again when the air has passed into the bottle and before any air or fuel can get back into the pump cylinder again.

it is important that all the parts are in place and in the correct order and orientation for this to work. (see attached picture for reference)

If this does not work it will not be possible to build up pressure, and there can be fuel leaking into the pumpcylinder,
and if the leather gets soaked in fuel it gets too soft and can flip around or get off the piston and stop working.

The brass cone can some times get stuck or there can be dirt or particles that gets in the way so that it can't seal the connection.
Just opening up the end cap and take the parts out and put them back in again, and maybe also give it some cleaning can fix the issue.

To know what is wrong here, we need more information about the behaivior and how the leather and the non-return-valves looks.

    In terms of the Thread
The pump could be cross threaded if it does not align, some filing and rechaping could help.

If you can feel a lot of resistance when you pump - check valve could be stuck.
You can open this, clean and inspect it. It is at the end of the pump tube.

It is possible the stoves valve is open, and loosing pressure or fuel?

You can pump up the stove ( with air, not fuel) and submerge is to look for leaks.

Also check that the jet is not blocked.

No the valve is shut but there's no pressure build up at all, am wondering in their write up if they meant by

".. and also when it is inserted into the pumps cylinder make sure that the edge of the gasket is angled a bit out so that it gets in contact with the cylinder wall..." That the rod itself should be touching the canister wall?

No, They mean make sure that the pump leather (If it is leather) cup is flared out so it touches the siddes of the pump tube.

Open and clean the check valve (I think it is red) on the end of your pump tube.

Ok then am still unsure as to what the issue could be as its schape is fine, valve at the end just clips in so not sure how you would check it...?

Primus has lost the plot, stoves don’t need a pump and are made of Brass! Crikey.
