Just picked up a maxie marine stove. It was in storage (see photo). There is no info on these marine maxieson the site as yet.
Cleaned it up a bit, 1/3 filled methylated spirit tank, and it fires up. Left hand burner is good makes a roaring hiss and hot blue flame. Right hand burner only goes to low, seems to be a partial fuel flow blockage?
My find is lacking some accessories, pot holders and gimbal kit. (For cooking while rolling about at sea.) Here is a photo of a maxie marine in perfect order with all these accessories (In NSW, where they were once produced)
Thanks, they're real classics down under. They were made in Sydney by Maxco, fitted into small yachts (and some caravans) in the 1970's and 1980's. The unpressurised gravity feed system with needle valve control knobs is practical/simple, (it's similar concept to HPV Salsa) the output is around 2kw/3500 BTU (around twice that of the Salsa and Trangia's) so is can boil and cook in reasonable times. Unbolted the tank and swished out some gunge, added new fuel and both burners have the same blue flame output now. (Good beginners stove, minimal fettling)
@nightsky I’ve got at least one Maxco brochure at home. I’ll look for it in the files when I get back to Tasmania from Australia. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony, those instructions would be great, better maintenance and safe operation. This is the run test after cleaning the tank and fuel pipes. (also polished her up a bit).
Hi Tony Just picked up two Maxie stoves and could use a manual, one burner is missing the Valve seat and I have no idea on how to replace it, so if you have a manual it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jan
Hi Tony Thanks for the reply, would you know if the Valve seats on the burner can be removed? if so how Cheers Jan
Inside the valve body where the drip tube is comming from is a valve seat and it's missing in one of the burners, have tried to unscrew the valve part but it's not moving, not sure if it's soldered in.
