I spent the summer season at Scott Base, Antarctica. I was fortunate enough to visit Scott’s hut at Cape Evan’s, about 40km from the base. The hut was used from 1910 to 1913, it contained many artefacts including a couple of Primus stoves.
Lucky you spending the summer in Antarctica. If you'd had a little kerosene I'll bet those stoves would have fired right up. Is Scott's hut a protected historical site or just a run down relic? Ben
You lucky bastige. Looks great. @z1ulike I think despite appearances Scott's hut is a protected site. 100+ years of Antarctic weather is not kind to anything.
Looks like they hadn't learned to let the wind blow freely under the buildings in order to avoid snow gathering around the house/houses... SOP nowadays /Odd
All the huts are protected and looked after by the Antarctic Heritage Trust. Visitor numbers are controlled etc. I’ll do another post sometime showing more of the artifacts including the hut. Scott’s men spent 2 winters in this hut.
