Improvised wind-shields.

Hi, how often do you get a veteran stove without its wind-shield?

Here are some wind-shields,for one-pint stoves, improvised from used tin-cans:

Here is a Hipolito No.0 operating in a high wind, thanks to a Tesco tomato puree tin:



This is an Optimus No.0 with another home-made windshield. In this case the tin has a single air-hole and is supported on the spirit-cup using three evenly spaced pop-rivets around the can-wall:







Finally we have a Primus No.210 with a windshield made from a small tin which previously held pilchards!
Several small diameter holes allow air access, whilst the winshield is supported on the top of the fuel tank.

It is blowing a NW gale here today yet it proved easy to brew up outside using one of these small stoves and its improvised windshield,

nice idea---but..first i was eyeballed by the stock boys when i went around the shops with a ruler looking for a tin to make a meths burner for my Safety Chef..now its a can for windshields

I also will have to take a few measurements and then find the cans.

 

I have one I made out of a Duraglit can ( after the contents were used for stove polishing) and use it on my Primus No 1. I will add a photo later when my son & his camera/computer skills come home late this week-end

i would kill for any of these stoves in working condition!

have fashioned a windshield for an Optimus No. 1 from aluminum, but now simply use this:

 

The button has gotten me most of mine(stoves). It must be a defect in the operating system that effects the mouse controls. If anyone knows of a glitch or patch in these controls and a method of correcting the erratic activity PLEASE let me know.

There's a cord on the back of your computer, usually plugged into the wall, that you can pull out of the wall or from the computer. That will fix all of your mouse and any other computer problems!!!

 

Thank you for the quick reply and all of the great photos of improvised screens. I was worried about setting a tin/cylinder directly on top of the tank. I thought maybe they would overheat. I guess that it’s not much of a worry.

I have my dad’s 121L that I have all? of the parts for. I just bought another 121L for an ok price, but sadly it is not complete (not really unexpected is it?). It is only missing “only” the wrench (which I have already repurposed from a generic wrench), the spirits tin, and of course, the windscreen. It came with a couple of the long fixed prickers (no folding one). Other than that I have it spiffed up with a new NRV and fuel cap, travel cap seals. I just need a new pump cup. I could probably make one, but buying a few will be easier.
Another question comes to mind, the replacement NRV’s are of the short type, is there any issues with using a short NRV instead of the longer one in the 121? It pumps up fine without fuel (I used the pump from my original to test it).

Here are a few pics of the replacement windscreen I just whipped out.
Now to pull the pump out of my original and see if the new one fires up.
(The “new” one still needs a leather pump cup.)

 

Oh, I found a suitable “cheapy” wrench/spanner in a pawnshop tool bin and filed it to fit, then blued it with cold blue and stamped it with SVEA

I think maybe it was in response to a conversation with kerophile, but I guess I went to the links to the pics of the windscreens in the forum archives?
I guess? Heck, I don’t know, I’m old.
