Coleman 425B

This arrived in time for the weekend in really great condition.

It took minimal effort to get it going - a bit of penetrating oil on the lever for the fuel pickup, a clean of the generator and a rinse of the tank with acetone for good measure.







How interoperable are the generators for these? Would a replacement generator for a modern 424 work on this?

I should mention the brass tank cap in the second picture was a temporary stand in whilst I sorted out a seal for the original.

Nice stove . Correct O ring for the original cap should be good to go . Do not know about the 424 generator , the one thats there is about as good as it gets , you can probably run 50 gallons of clean fuel thru it . A rifle bore brush with rod of about .22 cal should keep it clean pretty much forever if the jet is worn would be a different story . The one I have I need a new tank , the SRV area cracked and leaks fuel into the pump area . I have to say mine also has a lot more paint burned off the main burner area of the case . Again nice stove.

I wasn’t able to remove the spring from the generator, but didn’t try very hard. Is just a matter of some penetrating oil then pushing / twisting it out?

The needle in the generator is a little crooked which has me thinking about a spare generator

A lovely stove indeed. These earlier stoves from Coleman are a different level to the modern ones. My preference is for the bigger 413 models. I don't think you'd be able to use a 424 generator, I'd check Old Coleman Parts and buy either an original NOS generators at $38, or one of their reproductions at $28.65. I know it'll add up with post, import etc but the stove is possibly worth it.

I spent some time finding generator part numbers and came to the same conclusion. Two NOS are en route.

Older thread but just checking how your 425B is holding up? Really looks great!

 

@Hwheel72 - life has gotten in the way of my stove habit (flood, house move).

It is tucked away in a box and I hope normal stoving will resume in the near future once my todo list gets whittled down to a more normal size.
