Reason or other, I begining like a use of a kerosene (valopetrooli in finnish). First I just use it with my Primus omnifuel, but this year I bought Primus 991 lantern and now, few weeks ago I found those Coleman 425 videos when some peoples test different fuels with it. So, I start look what ebay could offer... Well. Stove itself is not that expensive, but delivery costs are. About $100 or 80€ was the final price. Well, Primus omnifuel costs about 200€... I like old stuff, so my goal was to found so called original version. And I think that is it. Since I got it 1.8 (paid 14.7), I make at least my coffee water wiht it. Well, one day I do not use it, because I disassemble and repaint it. I found pretty close spray color for it. Some of pics is from seller post of ebay. My ones are taken when parts are striped off. Then I make some sanding and painting. I don't try to make it new, just nicer to use and watch. Wok and small Trangia pot fit in it when right side wind plate is not on it hoder... First test was with kerosene (first flames at top of photos), but now I use mix what contains 48% of kerosene 48% of alkyd gasoline and 4% of xylene. It works very nice with that stove... Thanks if you read that long Did I mention that I have also Optimus 55/155 Stove too...
@Ari Sorvari A warm welcome to CCS. A great first posting detailing what is a very, very impressive restoration. Well done! Pharael.
Welcome, very nice, going to serve you well. Stove is early version 1948ish with external leg tabs. My Grandkids use my parents 425NL the other day. Coleman stencil on tank is not correct.
Thank you and thank you That paint what I found from local Tokmanni. Is maybe slightly lighter than original. It is Maston car paint and number is. I use following paint with "silver" parts. It can handle 600°C without color changes. To the tank I just use copper paint.
Years ago, I bought a Coleman 425 from the Goodwill thrift store for $9.99 USD. It was still encrusted with ancient fish- or pancake batter, but I hosed it off, and it ran fine. The old batter stripped the green paint underneath, but that's merely cosmetic to me. Stove works great. The thing to remember is that the Right burner is the Main, the burner on the Left is auxiliary. They do not get to equal heat. Use the right burner to get up to temp, and keep warm on the left, while you start the 2nd course. Glad the venerable 425 is getting some love in Finland. Here [USA] they're cheap as chips [as the Brits say]. A friend of mine used to be a hunting guide in Washington and Idaho... He carried 425s on muleback deep into the bush. Hardly a backpacking stove for a human, however.
