Funny, i just figured it out.
And then I saw your post. I'll try and find something thanks again. Hopefully soon I'll get it working. When I did have flames they were orange and big not blue and small.

 

That is why you need to heat the generator, so you can get that nice blue flame. Somewhere that stove must have had some way to heat generator before lighting burner. As I mentioned earlier, you can just heat the generator with a propane torch, get it hot, and you should get a good blue burn out of burner. If you get orange flames, you didn't heat it enough

 

I looked at the o c p website and not exactly sure what i'm missing. Could just be a gasket or the packing thing looks like what i'm calling the bushing. They do say that their packing piece is a hundred percent graphite. Not even sure if what I have for the packing peice is just a bushing or actually what they are calling packing.

 

The packing goes between the brass nut and the piece you're calling a bushing. The wire O ring on the shaft stops the bushing from moving forward or the shaft from coming out when you open the valve. The nut is a gland nut. It compresses the graphite packing between the closed side of the nut and the bushing, squeezing it tight against the shaft. Install the packing, then with the valve in about the halfway open/closed position, carefully tighten the gland nut until you can't turn the valve with moderate finger pressure. Then back the nut off one flat at a time until you can turn the knob with a reasonable force. What that "reasonable" force is, is a matter of experience and practice. Not so loose it leaks, not so tight it's difficult to operate.

 

Go to OCP and search "packing" get a couple of each option. They may look like a bushing, but they are not, just preformed.
Then search "ribbon" and you find a roll of ribbon you can use to make, or enhance, a packing.

I did find this little wing nut looking thing but not sure how I would utilize it.

 

That is probably a drain from the manifold, if you get it flooded you can open that.

 

I am going to say SUCCESS!!! Still need to figure out the best way to light it, but was able to get it going and all burners worked as they should! Thanks for all your assistance! Next project is a Vietnam era army issue two burner stove. It actually works, but may consider taking it completely apart and paint it. It was my uncle's.

Still wondering what happened to preheat device. Is there just one valve on tank?
