Hello I am new to the site and forum. I have found a tin in a rubbish skip containing an Optimus stove. I think it is from the 1960s but any help identifying it would be welcome. IanJ
Hi, I must be having a Senior Moment, please ignore my request, it is a 96 (on the stove!) If I knew how to remove my post I would!
It's not a problem being here, just great to see such an amazing find. Absolutely pristine, never been used, still as it was when it left the shop sometime in the late 1960s. Fabulous.
@Ianj Welcome to CCS. That is almost certainly unused and appears to have been well looked after. From what I can see of it, the tin appears to be immaculate too. It's had a lucky escape from ending up as landfill. There's a perennial debate on this site whether to leave such stoves as unfired or to put them to the use intended. Whatever you decide it is in such good condition that it deserves to be recorded properly. So, it would be good if you could take lots more pictures and post them in the Optimus 96 section of the stove reference sections (follow the link(s) from the home page). You might get a clue as to the date from the paperwork. Regards John
Thank you for your kind replies, I admit I am not ‘mechanically’ minded, but even I can appreciate a product that is not only well designed but great to look at. Best wishes Ianj
@lanj Welcome aboard CCS,what a lucky find a completely unfired 96 in as good condition as the day it left the factory, this stove has spent it's unused life in a non damp environment (indoors) well done there
I think we'd all like to find them like that, pristine and just thrown away, just waiting for someone like us to find it and look after it
