Here we have one very hard used WW1 Primus which seems most likely to have been owned by an officer in the British Royal Engineers. The outfit was supplied by and was purchased from the long established London gentlemen's outfitters A.W.Gamage of Holborn. Gamage provided their own tin which was slightly larger than the official 'Pocket Primus' tins, but had none of the interior fitments: The stove, as already mentioned had some hard use as revealed by the many rudimentary soldered repairs: The burner, bell, flame plate and legs seem to be all original: Three inexplicable items found in the tin were 3 DIY prickers, none of which would have any chance of fitting the 96 'lipstick' burner Finally returning to the provenance of this outfit, as previously discussed in this thread, there seem to be 2 possible candidates for the original owner, an RFC flying officer, and a Royal Engineers Lieutenant. The latter seems to be the most plausible given the nature of the use to which it seems to have been subjected. Unfortunately there is very little surviving documentation for this officer, Lieutenant J.C.Robinson:
The deep brass color suggests its long history. It's a very cute and cool stove. I'm amazed at how much information you can get from the box and other items.
Those prickers really are a puzzle, a lot of effort seems to have gone into making them. Great outfit made even better be the historical links.
