This GSI Outdoors Mini-Expresso Maker was NIB. The GSI Outdoors double-wall expresso cup is my addition as the mini-expresso maker is not supplied with one. Pharael.
I have one of those. Works great. I love it. I used to have the bigger 4-Cup model. Identical, but bigger. Sadly, it got stored in a leaky shed under some pool chemicals on the shelf above. Rainwater seeped down, and corroded thru my Espresso maker. I now own an Esbit Espresso maker that same size, but it has a rounded bottom making use with any other heat source than the proprietary Esbit stove difficult. I used to be a lamp operator for the movies. I would go up in a ''Condor'' [Cherry-picker, or Vertical lift platform] with a 12K Fresnel spot and an array of PARs -- sometimes for up to six hours during a night shoot. I brought a down jacket, a mountain sleeping bag, tapes and Walkman, snacks, water, sodas, and my Svea 123 and an espresso maker.
@SveaSizzler Very interesting background story- many thanks for sharing. @gnome first brought this little gem to my attention when he recently posted making an espresso with his, along with @The Warrior who had bought one for his wife back in 2013 I believe. So whilst NIB, the purpose for me acquiring this was to put it to good use! Pharael.
@SveaSizzler great story! I usually use mine on a 123R fitted with Enders silent cap. @Pharael I'm a bit of an accidental gsi fanboy. Will need to find one of those cups!
@The Warrior Ah yes…an espresso with a dash of sambuca…outstanding work! I don’t have any sambuca so this will just have to do. Pharael.
I still have the aluminium version of this espresso maker. Stainless steel will be a definite improvement. However, to answer @snwcmpr ‘s question: The lower section of @Pharael ’s coffee maker is exactly the same as the little 3 cup Bialetti that fits inside my small (Trekker) Kelly Kettle. (minus it’s handle) I’m a pretty basic camper and I can’t help thinking that in any sort of weather, the enclosed Bialetti system would be the better tool and make exactly the same coffee. That said it’s a fun piece of kit and I enjoyed my old aluminium one for a long time.
Works about the same. If you look at my avatar, you'll see a Bialetti Moka minus the lid and handle over a Svea 123.. The handle broke off and then I got the idea to also pull the lid, and rig it so all the pieces nest inside one another. For a handle, I use a Sigg or Trangia pot gripper. With no lid, I use a pewter shot glass in the shape of an oversize thimble on the top spout to control the output. [Inscribed: ''Just A Thimble-full.''] The Bialetti is a lot heavier than the GSI 4- Cup.
That nesting version sounds interesting. Do you have any pictures of it? I’d like to fit a six or nine cup Bialetti into my big (Base Camp) Kelly Kettle. I use a pot gripper and I think a little two shot stainless steel espresso mug would do the job of the lid and the drinking cup.
Yes indeed. Thank you @Pharael I love the thimble cup. Now you’ve put ANOTHER project on my bench as I think how to pack a stainless steel Bialetti!!!!
