I've been using an MSR XGK EX stove since 2018 on my around the world bikepacking trips. I haven't really taken proper care with regular maintenance and I've been having a hell of a time trying to fix the stove now. I'm at a point where I don't know if I should throw it out and get a new one or if I should continue trying to repair it since they're supposed to last a lifetime. Any insights are welcomed.

It basically loses power somehow. I'll start it up, the flame sometimes turns blue but then starts to sputter and just slowly loses all its juice and the flame extinguishes. I had problems getting the fuel line cable out and eventually did with the use of pliers and I definitely frayed the end of the cable now.

It seems like no matter how many times I try to clean the line with the cable and flushing it, nothing improves or it improves for several minutes but then goes back to sputtering and then extinguishing itself. I attatched a photo of the sputtering weak blue flame

Have you serviced the pump? As in replaced the bottle gasket and NRV ball? It sounds like you are losing pressure. You could pump up an empty bottle and dunk it into the sink looking for bubbles.

I'll give it a shot. I think its keeping pressure though, it has the hiss when i unscrew the pump from the fuel bottle. Actually, when I unattached the stove from the pump, I got sprayed with some gas from the line

Carbon deposits in the fuel line?

What kind of fuel have you been using?

First off congratulations on cycle accomplishments the stove has served you well over the years. To me always thought MSR meant Maintain Stove Regularly. Hopefully you will get stove back on track.

I know you said you cleaned the fuel line with the cable, but did you clean the cable? Carbon bits from the cable could be clogging the jet. I've seen this before with other stoves. These are relatively simple stoves. I use 0000 steel wool or a dunk in my sonic cleaner to clean the cleaning cables in my stoves if they are badly caked.

Get on the Cascade Deigns website and fill out a service request . I am going to say you should replace the hose assembly which includes the jet , weighted pricker , cable and outer hose . They may just send you a replacement part if you ask . Or send the stove to them . It is current production so shouldn't be a problem . Good Luck , MSR has treated me right whenever there has been a problem .
