Good morning all, I have a very old stove that has been in my loft for many years. I bought it along time ago when I started camping and wondered if these things are of any interest. It is marked Meta N.50 and has stamps on most of the components. It comes with a solid fuel burner, two pots, a spacer ring, burner, pot holder and frying pan. A very neat item and quite light weight too! Video here: Enjoy the video and photos. Thanks Jason
Great stuff @Jason H Here’s the 1931 patent drawing. Alongside the original pattern of Meta No.50. Meta tablets intended for it. Catalogue illustration (pre-1931 pattern) John
@presscall I'm glad you clarified that you only slide meta tablets down the inverted handle to top up the fuel and not meths. I'd still be concerned about getting burnt fingers when you take the handle back out after topping up a burning stove. I remember having to dunk a trangia pan handle in water to cool it down while cooking a fry up for scout camp brakfast. Regards John
@Jeopardy Yes indeed, pouring meths down the chute would result in a flare-up on igniting and leave the pot handle uncomfotably hot too. The inverted pot handle ‘chute’ only accommodates Meta tablets, or other tablets cut into pieces and slid in. The obvious benefit of the system is being able to refuel mid-session without having to take pots off for access to the burner and requiring a meths burner to cool before refuelling. In theory, the handle/chute could absorb some heat on doing so, but it can be done pretty quickly!
1] Can the Trangia burner fit the Meta kit? 2] Do Esbit or generic hexamine tablets work with the Meta? Do they burn as hot? 3] Are Meta tablets truly extinct? 4] Looks like the four brackets on the 4 sides of the upper burner base are shaped for some kind of extended support arms. What might they have looked like? Nice kit, by the way. And welcome aboard, Jason H.
