I was lucky enough to pick up this unfired 550B in a local auction room. It came in its original box, and even has a black plastic ring around the base of the fuel tank, which I assume is there to prevent the bottom of the tank from rubbing on the box when it is in transit. I have not come across this plastic ring before.
Lucky you! These are great stoves, of you ask me. The last in the line of compact, tank attached, stoves from Coleman. And the big question is, are you going to keep it unfired?

That black plastic ring is called a "leveling ring", and it's there to help you keep the stove square and flat on uneven ground. It works very well, indeed. Again, well done, and thanks for sharing! One of the greatest American stovess ever made IMHO. It's was my first liquid fuel stove in the day. Sadly sold it 20 years ago. Missed it dearly and grabbed a NIB version last year. Adore it and USE IT! Gratefully not considered a collectible classic yet. Did yours come with the Kero generator? Doc is right that plastic ring: it has a slope to it so you twist the ring to move one of the feet down lower for uneven ground. A marvel of engineering and a future classic.
