Hi all, I just received a Sigg Firejet off a popular auction site. It looks barely used, but I have a question regarding the pump. Should the O-Rings in the pump and fuel line be lubricated at all? There's no mention in the instructions, but in my scuba diving experience, O-Rings get lubricated to ease movement and prolong longevity.
Yes and oil the leather pump cap. My last of 3 pumps just failed. They all developed a crack where the fuel line screws in on the thinnest section. I may attempt to plastic weld one up if I can figure out which plastic it is. I can still use it as a butane gas burner till I sort something out. I use food grade oring grease and olive oil for the pump leather. Take a tip. I use an old burner inner cap under the middle nut to stop the legs from going wonky and support the load better when you put a big pot on it.
Thanks barrabruce, leather cap is nicely oiled but the O-Ring on the fuel line was just screaming for some lubrication as it got screwed in.
Don’t forget the one on the burner head connection. There is an other ball for a valve in the pump handle cap. Over pressure valve if you didn’t know. You will be cackling along in no time. Slow on the boil but good to actually do cooking with.
