@PWDolkas Hello, dear friend, thank you for sharing Please advise how the fuel pipe that you connected to the soda can works, thank you
kohdarmiansali- I'm not sure I understand. There is no fuel pipe connected to the stove - you fill the burner with the correct amount of alcohol to boil whatever amount of water you have in your pot, and then light the stove. Are you referring to the lanyard that holds the lid to the stove? It's just a piece of black nylon cord, and it's just there so the lid is always at hand to extinguish the stove if you need to. -Paul
@PWDolkas Hello, thank you for your reply. I thought you found an initiative that keeps the stove on all the time and the desired fuel is injected into the can, because when the fuel runs out in the middle of cooking or preparing boiling water for tea or coffee, the trouble of fuel injection and heating the can is a long process. Maybe in the perseverance that I see in you, you will invent this method in the coming weeks, with the hope of beautiful days and new initiatives. In the second photo, I added a small amount of car gasoline to 95% industrial alcohol (the only alcohol that is available to people) to test, and it did not give a good result.
@snwcmpr Hello my dear friend, thank you for your attention, I hope you are always well and happy Yes, in different countries of the world, there may be many alcohol stoves with fuel sources, but in our country, such cases are not found, unfortunately, and we are always looking for a solution to our dreams.
The one I saw used a flexible hose and the fuel was rationed by the user, using a squeezable bottle. It was not like a traditional alcohol gravity stove, but a lightweight backpacking stove.
@snwcmpr @The Warrior Hello, thank you for the videos sent, because the main topic here is to carry cooking utensils while walking, it seems that the second video is more appropriate for this because it is difficult to carry that cross-shaped oven, maybe many other innovations have been made that We are not aware of that, in any case, thank you for your kindness and attention and guidance
Cool stuff! Although with any design that involves adding a bunch of fuel to a burning stove, I would worry about adding too much and spilling burning alcohol all over the place. Given that methanol burns almost invisibly when it's bright outside, you may not know that you have done so until it's too late. I think I will stick to making sure the stove has an (attached) snuffer lid and refilling it once it's extinguished. Doesn't take long. -Paul
I once used isopropyl alcohol mixed with a splash of rc car glow fuel to preheat a stove since I had no denatured alcohol at the time. The glow fuel completely eliminated the sooty flame of the isopropyl alcohol and instead burned with a pure white color, VERY surprising. Unfortunately it also had 10% oil in the formulation so that was left behind in the spirit cup. But otherwise it worked amazingly well and solved any problems with using isopropyl alcohol
If you’re worried about refuelling a hot alcohol stove (I am!) then carry two. They weigh practically nothing
I think some have gotten the wrong idea about the remote fuel tank of the lightweight alcohol stove. It is not the same as pouring alcohol on a hot stove. F false E evidence A appearing R real
Didn’t think it was. It just seemed an unnecessary complication. The video shows the user pulling over the fuel bottle by accidentally pulling on the fuel line. I did wonder about the stability/vulnerability of the burner. Those who like the idea shall of course use it and good luck to them. Me? I’ll take two Trangia burners.
For suckers like me living in California (where our lawmakers, in their infinite wisdom, have made denatured alcohol very hard to find), West Marine currently sells the Sunnyside brand denatured alcohol, marketed as Alcohol Appliance & Marine Stove Fuel. The MSDS lists the hazardous ingredients as methanol (52.3% by wt), ethanol (43.2% by wt), and methyl isobutyl ketone (0.9% by wt) making it moderately less toxic than yellow HEET (100% methanol). The West Marine in San Pedro (Los Angeles) had it on the shelf in February 2024 in quart ($10.50) and gallon ($25) sizes. I also understand that we can buy the same product at Grainger, but I have not actually walked into a Grainger outlet to confirm this.
Really old post but I just want to say I have run over 20 GALLONS, many many tanks full, of unleaded pump gas through a Coleman 550b in the last 2 years without an issue.
