Bought this stove about 20 years ago. It has been on some of the roughest corrugated tracks and roads. I have mostly ever burnt kerosene in it and it has served me well. I have replaced the nrv pip and fuel cap oring a few times. Apart from that haven’t really had any troubles. Last time was about 5 years ago when I made a ball out of thick ptfe tape for the pip. It is still working fine. One day after a couple of months up the cape and the night before we got home the nrv valve decided to rattle off and spew kerosene out the pump cap. Hastily ripped the control knob shut and of it’s housing and kicked the lid over it shut. Grabbing a plastic bucket I tossed that over it and smothered the flames. Poured out the rest of the stinking mess when it cooled down and threw it in a garbage bag till I could look at it when I got home. Cost me a $1 plastic bucket. The hardest part was to unwedge the NRV parts from around the pipe work and shake them out of the filler hole. New pip and tank seal and away it went again after a bit of a bath to clean up. That was about 10 years ago. I now just mostly run it on metho as I use a Sigg trangia set up for simmering stews/ curries etc and have a nanny nap while is festing away. So one fuel is good. We also gone up market use a dreaded butane gas bottle stove burner as well. It looks like this now. Still going Running on metho. I was gunna do it up and re-paint it, but never get around to it. I may need to make some new pot holder wires for it. But been saying that for a while as well. So to conclude my review. I would recommend burning kerosene or metho in these. I would not like to have been burning Shellite when the nrv went. It wouldn’t have happened if I had checked the NRV after every 5000kms of rough roads. But hey. I still use it. It still is going strong. Still deserves a place in my gear and proud to own it. Cheers. Bruce
Thanks Ed It appears I have had a relapse of the dreaded stove pox. Thinking of converting a msr Whisperlite to metho and gas for a s/s stove that may last a while has brang me back to this port of call.
