I’ve had to go through quite a bit of trouble a few times when soldering/silbrazing components that required heating and soldering all the way around. I decided to make this task a little easier by mounting a steel tube with a large bearing inserted into it in a vise. I place a fireclay brick with the components to be soldered on top of the bearing. This is a fairly convenient option that doesn’t require moving the component being soldered or fiddling with the placement of the soldering wire. https://youtube.com/shorts/3WACVFovNKw?is=m5CbdRGn2sjivvAs
I'm not sure what you are doing here. What parts are you trying to join? How does the ball bearing ring help? Maybe others can figure out what you're doing and elucidate it for me. Ben
I had to remove the deformed middle section of the burner and replace it with a piece of brass tubing. This required a two-step soldering process. First, I joined the two smaller pieces together, and then I soldered them to the burner head. All done! This required heating the components evenly and applying silver solder around them. The rotating table allows you to work from a single position (without having to move the components or "dance" around the workstation). @Blackdog . I've been thinking about it. Even a simple belt-driven pedal would be fine
@Knee Thanks for the explanation. Creating a miniature Lazy Susan to get a 360 degree weld was a brilliant idea. Ben
Did something similar with a drill and a long bit...sometimes you feel like the octopus that plays the drums haha
3 years ago i've made small rotator for tig welding. sometimes i use it also for soldering like this.
@gideon . What a great device! It's on a whole other level. ...And here I am bragging about some ancient contraption.
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and helpful tips. The project I’ve taken on (I still have a long way to go) required many days of thought. I was looking for an effective and ergonomic method, which is why I came up with this simple approach.
@Knee thank you very much. your device is VERY useful for the purposes that mine can be redundant. (i have one bigger than i can use every day, unfortunately...) i am thinking to copy your small table
I have a similar bearing jig [ with interchangeable tables; a soldering/ brazing board and a round table for spray painting tins and small parts with rattle cans aerosol paints.
