I have an early Optimus Nova purchased new from a military stove surplus site. Decided to over haul pump. Purchased a new Optimus nova, nova + and Polaris repair kit ($35US). Tried to replace NRV on old pump, upon removal it snapped at flat head screw driver slot, with minimal force. Well I decided to get the NRV out. It would not fit. The “new” NRV threads are larger. The new NRV is considerably larger overall. can anyone advise? I contacted Katadyn. Waiting….
Sadly, it would, because the slot is not intended to unscrew the NRV with. It’s a fuel port in the NRV sleeve to prevent hydraulic locking of the sprung-loaded seal in the close-fitting bore of the sleeve. Your best source for a pre-Katadyn era Nova NRV is likely to be Base Camp in the UK. HERE’s their Nova parts list.
Thank as always. Nothing was broken on the nova stove or pump. I was just replacing some parts that could be worn or close to failure. I should’ve left alone. When in doubt…. Pull the Svea123 out.
Early Nova should take any ordinary Primus compatible NRV as the original one is the updated replacement NRV with Viton ring for most older swedish kerosene stoves - and a lot of other stoves, lanterns and blowlamps from many countries.
@Lennart F Thanks for the heads up. I recently bought a Nova for cheap as 'not working' the previous owner said that he bought the stove in 2009 and tried to service it this winter. Well, if you dont fasten the nuts and bolts, yes you will end up with a fireball. After going over the whole stove I also wanted to check the nrv. I only could find the manual for the nrv that points to the side. Mine sticks straight out the bottom. I also slightly split the nrv. I didn't break it all the way. But if it ever fails, it is good to know the a standard nrv will fit.
