I just finished making a new filler for my Optimus 81. I kept the top red cap to make it look like some what looking original. Anyway I had to test it out , as one does. Wife was off at work so I had some left over stew to reheat. A nice slow heat up to simmer. No sticking or burning. They are good for that. So after eating that out of the pan as us heathens do, I had to wash it down with some coffee in the mokka pot. A 25-27 trangia small pot wire support worked a treat. Nothing complex. Haven’t used it for a while. Will run it out of fuel before I put it away. Call it a success. Thanks for looking Bruce
I decided to fire this little cheapy alcohol burner and brew up a quick shot…..the heat might be a bit high for a really nice brew. I can smell a little burnt aroma. It’s kinda hot outside today.
@Yellowstone Johnny I used BD’s DragonTamer .stl file (with no measurement changes to BD’s original spec.) to have a DragonTamer silent cap 3D printed in 316L stainless steel for one of my MSR Dragonfly’s. Works very well…no overheating or underburn when operating on full tilt. Very good on low simmer. Here..on duty…running on naphtha. I made the decision not to remove BD’s logo for very specific reasons personal to me. Pharael.
@Pharael may I ask where you had this made? I would love one of BD's caps for my Nova. Is it possible to have them made to order? Edit: After some searching Ik found a company in the Netherlands that also does 316L printing... Maybe I'll look into that.
Whilst I have found my DragonTamer in 316L Stainless Steel works extremely well, I have not tested any other BD silent cap model produced in 316L SS. Therefore, I highly recommend reading and considering BD’s cautions in respect to using his silent cap model .stl files for 3D printing… BernieDawg Silent Cap 3D Printing CAD Files | BernieDawg Stove Lab Pharael.
