I recently met a very interesting person. She is a woman (a graduate of the historic preservation program) whose passion is saving the old architecture of our region. She has undertaken a very ambitious project, relocating and rebuilding cottages that were doomed to ruin. She has extensive knowledge in this field and has created something like a beautiful open-air museum on her property. During the event held in this wonderful setting, I had the pleasure of presenting part of my collection. I brought along a few stoves that blended in with the surroundings. I shared a bit about their history. I demonstrated a wireworker station, explaining how to repair broken stoves. Firefighters were on hand to ensure safety. Beautiful old traditional architecture surrounded by greenery. A few photos of the interiors. It's such a wonderful place that I'd love to live there...
Marvellous project Stanislaw and well done on your contribution of essential artifacts (stoves) to accompany contemporary life there. A beautiful setting. John
I felt that both you and she share the same desire to preserve wonderful things that are otherwise fading away for the sake of future generations. My grandmother’s old house also contains many things not found in the modern world, and I, too, wish to preserve it. However, preserving such things requires a great deal of effort—effort that I am unable to put in myself. I imagine this situation is the same in every country; while I know your work must be incredibly challenging, I truly hope you continue with it.
John, Ed. Thanks for the kind comments, guys. Thanks @Camp numao . This woman’s project is indeed on a massive scale. She probably wouldn’t be able to carry out this ambitious project with her own funds alone. She must be able to raise money from various institutions and through donations. But we have to commend the local community for their commitment to helping this brave woman. Young people are a big help with cleanup and gardening. Adults are also eager to pitch in with the heavier work. It’s all very heartening.
@Knee As all ways Stanislaw excellent post, and well done Stan with adding your superb interesting collection of stoves to the Avent, which i am sure was a great asset well done there Stan
Thanks, Brian. In Poland, collecting old stoves isn’t very popular. People who look at my modest collection seem to recognize them, but I get the impression that some are a little surprised that I collect this “junk.” That’s why I try to tell interesting stories about the history of these wonderful devices (I always emphasize that I gained this knowledge at CCS). I hope that through gatherings like this, I’ll help make this hobby a little more popular.
@Knee, Stanislaw, Very enjoyable effort, Good Sir! Educating the general public IS a great way to entice others to get into, and enjoy the hobby that we all find so attractive and enjoyable! And, the outstanding work done by the woman who is trying to preserve so many fantastic buildings, is highly commendable, too! Your display reminded me of a smaller effort that Sweet Bride and I undertook at a backpacking store that was, in it's day, one of the leaders in outdoors education and supplies, Adventure 16, aka A16. Here is a snap of Sweet Bride manning our display. We were surprised that so many people had NO idea that stoves such as this had ever been used, and loved. And, like you did, we found lots of interest, and folks even wanted to buy some of our stoves! YIKES! Thank you for sharing your outstanding day with us, and also for educating us on the efforts of the woman who is trying to preserve history of that area, through gathering the excellent selection of homes to save and share! Very well done on both counts! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc and Sweet Bride
Thanks @Doc Mark . I'm glad you share this approach to spreading knowledge about these wonderful, old, and in a way, timeless devices. I’d also like to thank you for your kind words acknowledging the excellent work of the woman who created this beautiful place. I really like your exhibition and presentation in such an iconic tourist destination. It’s also commendable that your Sweet Bride willingly supports you in your passion by accompanying you on such initiatives. Warm regards. Stanisław.
