Just picked up this old Bernzomatic single burner. The only issue is that I can't figure out how to attach the bottle attachment to the stove. It has female threads on the end, but there's nothing on the stove to screw it onto. There's just a hollow pipe that goes to the burner. Am I missing a piece?
It looks like the tube on the valve may slip-fit into the tube on the burner, but Definitely check the instructions.
Maybe a collar of some type missing? found this in gallery here Mine has a rubber hose with connectors on each end and different looking burner. Maybe if you keep pressure down and rubber hose can connect the two? Long shinny propane tank stores inside. Measure case width and see if you can get tank that fits. Some brands are 1/4-1/2 inch too tall to fit. good luck
The instructions just say "Insert valve tube into burner opening at side of stove securely." But it doesn't specify how to do that haha The tubes do fit together, but wouldn't this leak? They are about the right size to slide the attachment into the stove, but it still wobbles a bit from not having a tight fit Also, what is the purpose of this hole in the tube? It seems like gas would just flow out of it freely. When I insert the attachment into the side of the stove, it ends right before that hole
@Ian_07 The holes allow air into the tube to mix with the propane. Without them the flame would be yellow and weak.
It looks like the pipe on the side of the valve is long enough to be close to if not beyond the tube on the inside of the stove. The air hole in the latter is indeed to allow air be drawn in by the flowing gas and mix with the fuel before it gets to the burner head. Very much on the same principle as a Bunsen burner in a traditional chemistry lab. In this application the ring that adjusts the fuel / air mixture in a lab burner would be a bad thing. Therefore the fit between the two only needs to be tight enough to stop the gas bottle falling away from the side of the stove in use. Regards John
The fitting of the regulator into the tube works about the same as with Coleman suitcase stoves. Where the generator goes into the mixing chamber is not a tight fit, but still functions. Venturi effect is an interesting thing And Coleman does warn about not using the stove inside, I guess that also counts for this one.
