This Sirram thread is really interesting. Ive had a Kelly Kettle for nearly 40 years, but just acquired a Sirram for what I feel was a good price £20. It has the steel base and Flask (I had to fink a cork for that). Its embossed on the top. Just wondering on its age would you say post 1950’s. Got to say I like it a lot.
I’m taking a guess at the diameter but I suspect that the Kelly Hobo stove would fit it and with a bit of luck pack into the fire base. It weighs practically nothing and packed away it takes up no significant space. i regularly cook meals on mine and I’ve used it to make yeast bread. It can be so much more than a kettle if you let it You can’t blame the Kelly marketing people but I’m always amused that their kit is bright and shiny while it’s cooking. Mine has not looked like that since sixty seconds after the first time that I used it. Your Marris can be a great piece of kit for water AND for cooking.
Thanks for the replies guys. I like the design of this like how the base is held by the body. And the internal fitting spare flask. It measures opprox 12” tall (without the base) and about 6” dia. Looking forward to using this. Only downside has been the spare flask covered with limescale. Im slowly getting there cleaning with washes of Coca-cola, I dont want to wreck the anodised finish.
Pattree, Been meaning to reply. You are right my Kelly Kettle Hobo fits it perfectly both on the base for cooking and into it for packing. You would think it was made for it! All in all a great piece of kit.
I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. i made some great curries at the recent BushcraftUK Moot. I have both sizes and tend to use the little Trekker sized one much more than the bigger one. Enjoy, Pat.
Breakfast at the Bushmoot. I modified the bale so that it’s safer and packs tighter. It stands clear of the kettle when boiling and fits flush beneath the spout for packing.
Thats a nice idea Pattree. Interestingly I measured the weight of the Sirram body compared to the Kelley Kettle body (same size) Kelly was 177grams heavier. But then they were never meant to used as lightweight gear I guess.
177gm! I never was an ultralight hiker even in the days when I could manage 40k a day with a pack. Never understood the use of titanium. Nasty tasting stuff. If that much weight matters then lose half a kilo of your own weight before you set out and maybe have an extra …….! i have no idea what weight my little stainless steel KK Trekker (0.6L) is but I’d leave a pair of pants behind before the KK if the difference ever mattered. I’m an old car camper now so I just enjoy - it’s a fun tool to use and it is very efficient. There are mornings when the coffee just can’t come quick enough and the frying pan follows fast. btw. A few years ago I found a little Pound Shop conical 550ml sprayer that fits the cap of a squash bottle. It fits the little Trekker perfectly just like your aluminium bottle. I never carry water in the KK and don’t have a cap or whistle over the spout.
