Hi, this is my Coleman 424 in action in Langdale (UK) last weekend. I haven't used it much over the years (had since new) as it's so big and not suitable for motorbike camping. It looks a bit cobbled together from 533 bits, and the second burner is an odd slave arrangement off the first. The wind shield works well enough. The brass valve on the side doesn't seem to have any effect in any position and I've long since lost the instructions! It takes so long to heat up and run blue that 2 mugs of tea worth of water are usually boiling just as the flame settles to blue. Luckily the cast iron kettle shrugs off soot and carbon monoxide!
@Phill Jackson From the pictures it looks as though you are not operating the stove correctly or the light/run is not functioning correctly. You should never get fireballs like that. The tank has a decal that should say up to light down to cook or something to that effect. In the up-position air is mixed with the fuel. Are there not instructions embossed on the inside of the lid?
hi, thanks for your reply. looking at the other 424 posts, they all have a handy sticker on the underside of the green lid explaining the brass lever. mine just has a health & safety warning in umpteen languages! from reading on the other posts i think i've been flooding the tube with fuel. i think i'm supposed to get the match in place before opening the valve. on the little coleman it has never mattered, so i think it's operator error rather than a fault.
