    Here are the choices:

    'Original' Ford Cosmos Blue
Bright red (i chose that for an 8r after a friend stepped on another 8r, totalling the case...)
Military Olive, semi-gloss (original German army, like on the Enders 9061)
White, for something different? (I just have a can of white standing around, that's all)
    A totally different color altogether?

Like i wrote, can't make up my mind, but have the case all prepped and would like to paint it.
    What do you think? :?:

    Hey, CB,

I have repainted one of my 111s with car paint twice, its looks ok, but after a yoear in the car boot (always ther if I need it) and on some trips, the paint is not good.
Try to find a robust paint, the orginal hamerite seems to last longer.
Chose the color you like, the red one was beautiful!.
Powder coating seems to be the moast robust, but who do that on an old stove?

    dsk

    Thanks for your input, guys!
I am not too worried about the type of paint, the car-stuff has served me well so far.
The red one looks exactly like my 8R, just that mine is not as glossy as it was high-heat engine block-paint.
I do like the yellow...guess I will check the store for bright colors.
I already thought about using the same color as my '73 Beetle 1303 has:

    Kfer1303.jpg

That is 'ravennagruen'. Neon-green, lime-green, call it whatever you want. Initially I was very, very sceptic about the color, but now I really like it.

    Nobody likes the miilitary-look?

That red case looks very nice indeed, shows off the polished brass tank quite nicely.

The darker colours definitely help on this score .. what about a nice matt black case ?

    Hi Spudz,

problem with flat or semi-gloss black is that you can see just about any irregularity, any ding dent or deep scratch of the surface.

Otherwise i like flat black. Bit hard to see your stove sometimes: The 8R that got stepped on was painted high-temp flat black and was lying in low grass, closed, when my bud put his hoof on it. Said he never saw it until he heard it.
I think the red looks very nice with the brass of the tank and burner.
I will have a look at the different choices of red on offer. Bright Blue might look neat, perhaps like the Coleman-blue.
I just realised, that my car's color is close to what Optimus now uses... Not too sure about that color anymore.

And still no comment on the semi-gloss olive...

    Hey, Jan,

The last brand new Optimus 8R that I bought, which I think was back in the 1990's, was sort of "Robin's Egg Blue", and I think it's very lovely. If you want, I can try to take a photo of it. OH, I just remembered, we're doing an 8R photo-shoot here at CCS, on the weekend of December 8th!! So, I'll include that 8R in my posted photos!!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

The Cosmos Blue auto paint will look great but melt under the burner inside and outside the case ! I tried this and am now moving on to matt blue manifold paint..... :(

For 111s /8s/8Rs etc simply open out a beer can & place under the burner ... also reflects the heat onto the cook vessel.
Guinness cans work well ... cant say for sure if Lager cans will have the same effect

I been meaning to post this anyways. My paint shop buddy trumped me and painted and polished one of those $54 Ebay military green 111Ts. This is as good a place as any. I made a stink about matching the Original paint on those 111Bs i did. He mixed up a slightly darker blue. My jaw just dropped when I got to view it last week. 2007_1127Breakfast0044.jpg 2007_1127Breakfast0048.jpg

Oh, for-crying-out-loud...that is just about EXACTLY the color blue I picked up today!!!

Next one will be Pretty-pink.

Diesel: Nice quality paintjob, though, I have to admit.
 Did he actually paint the burner cap??

Sorry, man... Yea the cap is painted. Its some kinda high heat custom graphite epoxy. Its not paint. Its been fired and it changed to this color. It was a gunmetal grey color before. Its going to burn off were guessing. But maybe not. Its a gift for the shop bookeeper. So its for presentation.

I've been on the lookout for that neon fire tender/engine red/orange that I remember from the 70/80's. can't find a source for that anywhere.

My last 111 lob was just plain powder coated black.

One of my student jobs involved preparing a Scammel Scarab (yes, I'm that old...) for painting in that colour. In fact, the painter had to spray the body white and then spray over that with a transparent orange lacquer / varnish. So maybe that explains why you can't find that particular colour, Simes...

Excellent pieces of kit, early versions were called the Mechanical Horse. My late Grandad used to drive one on the Great Central Railway / LMSR.
