Sorry guys and gals. I am very new to the burners. Someone explain the difference in what to use. Is parrafin Kerosene? Can coleman fuel be used? I am not sure what model I have, I think it is a Primus #5??(look back about a month ago, picture under " Whippets stove" listing. ) I am trying to get one for cooking in the field(i am a WWII reenactor) I need lots of help before buring myself. Also, what is best to use to pre-heat the burner? Any help is appreciated. Whippet
Hi, Yes - kerosene is Paraffin. If we're talking about the stove in your picture Coleman fuel must not be used. If it's marked Primus No:5 that'll be the make & model. The No.5 normally has a silent burner whereas yours has a roarer burner - they were interchangeable. The roarer you have will be better in a breeze but may attract the enemy! Thanks for the reply Ross. I picked this up at an auction and it is not really the style I wanted, I am looking for a cooker that breaks down, like the Primus no. 96. I would like to get it working though. I will do more reasearch and try to get it lit! Thanks Corey
I sense or smell the beginnings of a stove collector! It only starts out small, then you get the stove you want, and then there's more to look for.....fixed leg, breaks down, the bomb!, the silent burner etc, etc and then , you get into like some of us....the 50's versions, then 40's , a 20's one and even one in brown. Cheers,
