Useful indeed. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one and then fiddling it to death as I try my best at getting it to work with one of my many 123's. I have several ideas in mind already. Let me know if you get a couple.

    Hello,
Strange we never see a kit like that around here. You would think one of the sporting good stores would stock them. They certainly are cheap enough and look to be light weight.

I'm anticipating leaving for the Cairngorms in Scotland for backpacking, this Sunday, so I may miss them. :(

.... but I've just checked - there's a Lidl in Inverness that I might get to in time! :)

The problem with Lidl's is that when you get these offers people turn up in a small van and buy it all. then they sell it at a higher price on a market stall etc. I have seen it happen before. last time was a dfew months back when they had some excellent motorcycle magnetic tank bags for ?6.00. All gone. I tried every store in SE London! I don't mind people making money but perhaps Lidl's should limit the number a person can buy.
Anyhow, I'll have a look see. I am happy to buy two if anyone misses out and will post on to anywhere in the world.
    Regards,
    Alan

Same here, if I can get them, I'll pick up three, and pass on two

Picked up one of these recently

On the lookout for a small compact gas burner for it. will make a nice cookset for day trips

Bloody hundreds in the Lidl I visited in Cardiff this morning. I picked up two... I'm not sure why I got the second one, but at ?6.99 why not?

Works well, I've just boiled up a ration pack and kettle on mine.

    It comprises:
    two pans
    one frying pan/lid
    base and windshield
    burner
    simmer cap
    pan handle

    Smart!

None at my local Lidl (Durham) on Wednesday - probably those damn pensioners hoovered them up as usual. They're like bloody locusts on Mondays and Thursdays when the latest offers come in...

However, I'm glad, I think - I've too much stuff already and I'm desperately fighting off stove addiction. I got a Primus 96 in tin etc. just today. It's dated 'T' above a figure 2 which I think is 1929. Tell me if I'm wrong, please. Should it have a wind shield? Anybody got a spare flame spreader, which is missing?

Knowing these can be difficult for a newbie to get back in the tin, I drew a diagram as I removed the parts. Then, upside down, in the bottom of the tin, I found the original Primus card with the same diagram on it! Now, if I hadn't drawn my own diagram, that would have been missing...

I'm becoming strangely fascinated by those Optimus/Primus 111 stoves and I feel the need to have one. Do I have a problem...

Loads at the Consett shop but hidden under sandals! I got one for my dad.

Good quality for the price. The almost decorative diamond holes are very reminisent of old German & Austian stormcookers pre Trangia.

    Dave - forget the 111 - get a Primus 41!

Nice, Ross - but it doesn't quite 'hit the spot' like the 111 does...

Still, I'd better have one - just to make sure...=P~

Is that one of your own labels on the lid of yours?

Dave - yes it is. I've just got the silent version recently. Tin is a mess but I have one new one left so it should be good once I've restored the stove part.

Chuck - those stormcookers are quite heavy duty - 1.5kg

David, go for the 111. I've got 4, one of my very favorite stoves. My 111T needs a fettle session, but the rest are ready to go. Heavy, but a great product.

The way to look at the Lidl set is that ?6.99 for two pans, a frying pan and handle is bloody good value, and you could sell the rest off on Ebay :-)

I bought a simmer cap for my Swedish army meths burner and it wasn't far off ?6.99 in itself.

As for 111s, my 111T is still the stove I'm most likely to take away on a trip if I'm biking. The No12 gets some use too, but by christ it's loud. The silent burner 111 is a darling to use and, er, silent.

    Cheers

My apologies - still heavy-duty (unlikesome bendy cheapies) but weight is 1.05kg not 1.5kg.

    Dear Brother Alan,

I'm DAMNED proud of you, Bro!!!!! Now, go out and buy at least two more of the 111's and you'll do yourself even better!!

I'm going downstairs to see, exactly, how many 111 series stoves I own. Be right back.....

OK, I'm back. Keeping in mind that there are many boxes in which I still might find another one of these, here's the grand total:

    Optimus 111B - (4)

    Optimus 111T - (3)

    Optimus 22B (same family ;)) - (2)

    Plus:

    (1) Optimus 111T empty case, with pot supports. It's beat to hell, and I used it's burner and tank, fitted to a brand new 111T case, to make, essentially, a new stove. But, one day, maybe this old, and very beat case, will "live" again!

    (1) 111 burner, compliments of Brother Ian (Thanks, Ian!!) This burner will be used to change one of the 111B's into a 111, a stove I've long desired to own.

Now, owing to the kind nature of our Host, Mr. Mellows, I also have (1) Primus 41, and after having used it, have to say, he has some valid points in comparing it to the 111 series stoves. For one thing, the windscreen setup is TONS better than the 111's, and very easy to use. By design, the windscreen folds out from the lid and hooks onto the pot support, forming a very solid bond between the three things, and offering unsurpassed protection from the wind, in a like stove. Deep field trial are yet to come, but I'm eager for more testing, in a variety of conditions.

All in all, I still love the 111 series of stoves, and I also am developing a deep lust for my Primus 41! Hey, it's a "win-win" situation!!

    Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

How can this be possible? A former schoolteacher, now Registrar leading (as I understand it) a former sea captain astray - surely not... ;)

As i understand it school teachers teach. Sea Captains being sailors are usually having some one else telling them where to go and what to do. Equates in my mind. :D
