http://www.bplite.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=352 I am fascinated and tin can ready. Just can't quite figure out what he's done here. He talks of kerosun and alladin heaters. I heat with kerosun omni 85 and 105. Both have cylindrical wicks which go through to the bottom of the tank. Is he getting a minor self pressurizing effect here? He says no pressure, but if the wick is only in the primer pan, how is that possible? Ack.......Ack! Ack! Ack!......
that looks like it could end up a big sooty mess..... worse... it could end up a huge flaming housefire...
I'd like to get more details than are available in those photos. The idea is intriguing: blue flame from a non-pressurized kerosene tin can stove. It surely did appear to work, something that I have been unable to do with kerosene in any tin can stove. I'd like to see a pic of the pot after use to check for soot. Pete
Funny! I have been thinking about making such a stove like this also I is the same principle as these heaters: |imgRemoved| or this kinda lamp. It works like an afterburner. You light a wick, that wick heats up the metal 'pipe' with the holes or another wick for light, wich in turn super heats the unburned Kerosine. This produces a nice blue flame and no odor. very simple, but efective!
So, the kerosene is coming out of the bottom by the heat causing it to expand? He said it isn't building pressure. If the wick, in the case of the mini stove isn't down in the tank, the kero has to be coming up by pressure, doesn't it?
No, as he said in his 1st post, he needs to pre-heat the stove, which makes the kero to evaporate. This would make the use of a wick obsolete. I believe this is not a bogus, it could realy work.
Isn't it edge burning on the wick material shown? One problem is that the "wick" isn't adjustable, but still and interesting project. Ed
If it is evaporating up the center of his homemade "catalytic converter" it is either just an open hole in the middle or it has a circular channel with an inner wall. That's what I can't quite figure out and his pictures and explanation don't quite tell it all. I don't think there is anything bogus here either. It looks like it is working well and he mentions having done several burns. Thanks for the feedback guys.
We used to have a couple of these heaters andthey worked well if you kept the wicks trimed. Does anyone know of where you can buy them in the UK? Alan
