:?: I have quite a few stoves, primarily coleman. Today I went to a antique shop with the missus. I wasn't looking for anything, but I found a small grey metal box embossed with "The Pocket" Primus outfit. Inside was a Primus 96 stove, stands, spanner, 3 picks, something I take to be the generator tube?, primer pan?, flame spreader? and grate and a wind shield. Well here is where I need help. I am not familiar with this make of stove. ( it took me 20 minutes to fit it back in the box) I would like to get it operating again. I don't even know if I have all the parts. Does it run on Kero or White gas? Any websites or documents would be helpful

    thanks rw

Iknow your cousins; Later and Soldier!

    Hey Ron - welcome

I'm very new too. Here's a search result for Pocket Primus on the main site:
    http://search.freefind.com/find.html?id=46264915&pageid=r&mode=ALL&n=0&query=pocket+primus

There is also an archive with more info if you need it at: http://www.network54.com/Forum/81021

Also there is a phenomenal wealth of knowledge from all over the world here and someone who knows more than I do will be along in a minute.

    Your stove sounds complete.
    Good Luck.
    Jim

PS and one of them came along while I was one finger typing :D

Surely the 97 is big brother to the 96. The 210 is more like the next generation.

Thanks It is all there except for the "spirit can" what is Methylated spirits? Every thing comes apart easily. The leather needs to be soaked it is dried out as well as the center seal. The chart indicates it is a 1954. looks like it may have been lit only once or twice. Of course I bought it right away for $6.00.

For 'methylated spirit' read 'denatured alcohol'.

    Thanks Ian,
I get a little confused by some of the British terms and language twists. My family did come from England, but that was over three hundred years ago.
Anyway I have plenty of denatured and Methyl alcohol, I frequently use a trangia alcohol stove for camping. However my current favorite is the Coleman Exponent ?Xpert? butane stove. I have 2, as well as a 500, a 500A, a 501, 2 502?s, 2 400?s, a 442 (set for kero or paraffin oil), a 450, a 530, a 5432, an F1 (which is very nice to use as well but easily lost) , an Optimus 8R, plus a variety of double burner and triple burner stoves as well

Thanks for your help and if I have any more questions, I know where to ask

    rw

    Good Morning, Scouteron,

Congrats on scoring a nice Primus Pocket Outfit! I have two of them, one from 1920, and the other from 1956. Aside from them being a very nice variant of the Primus 96, I especially like the tin in which they reside! And SIX dollars??? YOU, Sir, are under arrest for STEALING that little Primus!!! ;) 8) Very nice, indeed!! Have fun fettling it back into working condition, and if you need parts, leathers, or gaskets, you're in the right place to find sources for all of them.

Welcome to the Spiritburner site, as well. I think you will enjoy being a member, and will find a nicely assorted bag of nuts in your fellow members!!!   Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,

    Scouter,

I think Doc forgot to mention that some of us envy your stove. I'll give you a ten for it!

    Morning, Scouteron,

Actually, Evil, aka Ron, got that part of it wrong. I never "envy" the wonderful finds that my fellow Stove Mates acquire! In fact, I LOVE hearing about them, and am happy and proud for any of my Mates that come up with something neat, especially when they STEAL IT, as you did your 96!! To me, that's one of the best things about the Spiritburner site. I mean where else can you share such finds, with folks that are actually INTERESTED in what you've got???!!!? 8) Most everyone else in the "real world" think that those of us who collect and enjoy stoves are a bit daft and have a few bats in our belfry!!! Scout, you just keep on sharing any cool things that you find, and you will find a ready audience of friends, right here, who will enjoy hearing about it, WITHOUT envy!!! :D ;) Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

Now scouter im a fair man i'll give you thirty and won't offer less no matter how you twist my arm.

    Hey, Evil,

OK, for being a "stove-lusting-greedy-guts", you are not allowed to buy ANY more stoves, for the next 30 seconds!! Stop that blubbering, or I'll make it 45 seconds!!!! We run a very tight ship here, and won't stand for that sort of thing!   ;)

Actually, in regards to "stove lusting": I have enough stoves, so that, if I could never buy another one, I'd still be a happy Man with all the neat ones that I already own! Truth! Sure, I'll keep looking for, and buying any interesting specimens, just because they are all so damned neat! But, if it all ended tomorrow, and I could buy no others, all would be well.

YOU, on the other hand, will need extensive counseling, and probably some heavy electo-shock treatments, if you ever have to stop buying stoves!!!!  :x  ;)

    Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

:D OK So I actually fired this little baby up After a couple of no goes the little son of a gun started roaring. I think I pumped it up to much at first, lot of dripping and yellow flame, then it would go out, but third times the charm. This is so cool I am taking this with me when I do Scoutmaster training. I usually bring an abundance of backpacking stoves to show new Scoutmasters how to use them. Most everything still used is White gas, Coleman and MSR both which require about 60 to 70 pumps. Of course Iso-Butane is the new thing, alot easier to use.
I am going to poliish this No. 96 up again and take some pictures. I got to get another one - but bigger. rw

Primus 210 / Optimus 00 is a nice stove. Bigger than a 96, less bits to lose, collapsable and with enough oomf to cope with most camp cooking tasks.
