Certainly like Ian's "this" photos and thought I had a "these" type of aluminium container, but its an inch or so too short. Did find a christmas cookie tin that will hold the whole works though. Its the candy cane pictures and Frosty the snowman scenes that don't add much to the outdoorsey flavor of the stove. Thinking about it and while I'm thinking about it, does anyone have a Primus 71 key? My little stove had lost his in the interim years. One off of a 123 works, but, of course I need one for the 71. Best, Bob
Hmmmmmmm..... I'm no so sure there is no correlation between your Frosty tin and the stove to be carried within. #-o #-o Would not Frosty need a cane or to if he were to wondered to close to flame....... \ \ Gordon
Gordon, The wheel M-1942 came to me as an incomplete box of bits from Australia. I added a potrest assembly from, I think, a Coleman M-1942. I don't know what markings are on the original (?) parts that I have - I'll have a look over the weekend as the stove is hidden away in the garage. I got a xerox of a maintenance manual for the wheel stove some time ago but there doesn't appear to be any designation other than M-1942 on it. I'll send it on. Check your email.
Gordon, It's not that I dislike cannister stoves.........it's just that I dislike their bulk. For motorcycle camping it is not the weight so much as the limited volume of things you can carry. I run out of room way faster than I run out of weight carrying capacity so I have never considered this type of stove. Who makes this stove and is it still available? Ian....
No, the 530 is the civilian version of another GI stove, the designation of which escapes me at the moment. The nearest thing to a civilian version of the M-1942 is this french clone by Selus; this one from Jur's collection, As far as I know the wheel operation was short-lived and peculiar to the M-1942.
"Hmmmmmmm..... I'm no so sure there is no correlation between your Frosty tin and the stove to be carried within. Would not Frosty need a cane or to if he were to wondered to close to flame....... " Since I don't live in "melting snow for water" country, can only imagine what might befall Frosty. I'd have to get in the freezer for ice cubes and melt those to see if that snow for water thing works, but then, I'd have nothing to put in my mint julip for that refreshing little pick-me-up later in the day. Its 5 o'clock somewhere. Bob
I think the taller WWII GI stove was the M1941. I think it has a steel tank. The immediate post-war Coleman version was the 530. All are nice, well made stoves that put out a lot of heat. Paul
Great job on the windscreen, looks like it fits like a glove!!! No stoves to be had much in the thrift stores here abouts, but there sure are plenty of "tins" in several of them. Tins which held candy, cookies, "gourmet" coffee, you name it. If only I were looking for tins....
Well I think I've seen a juwel ??? that looked like a 123 /71 but in the configuration of a M42err thing.Rogers type?? The one with the windshield/legs straight up the tank and not the type shown. Folding wire legs on the base 'n all Went for well$$$$ Bruce
Is this the one you are referring to Bruce? http://www. I do so love these little Juwels that I just went nuts!! I hate to say it but it wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last!! Gordon
No Gordon it looked like an army cooker but 123 type tank / burner assembly. If I had the $275 Bucks spare + shipping from sweden or germany. Well wern't that keen. Not the 35 which to me is more like a std 2 pinter set up. A mix between one of those kero jobs with the wire legs on the bottom and top. British one? with the screw in the centre of the burner jobbies. With a 123 type tank /burner assembly. Never mind some-ones got it now and no doubt be a few about like it somewhere. Bruce
Nope!! Try a hurlock.then .Took me ages to find a picture. Think Rik has got one or did have at one time. Be nice ho have one. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i286/Stovebiker/hurlock2.jpg Made with a 123 type stove with a solid windscreen 3/4 the way around it. Could have been an enders or a hovic or some other thing. Memories shot. If you don't understand my dribble it dont matter. Bruce
Ian got in before me. Yep thats probably it. Thought it was different but it was a ebay stove I looked at for 10 minutes 2 years ago Yeah most likey the one. Bruce. Can rest easy at night now. P.s Nope it was this one. http:// So I was sortta right!! Bloody hell can;t remember what I did this moring or the things I'm supposed to be doing Barra
Don't know how you do it Ian but you did it again =D> =D> =D> Finding obsure stoves from vague decriptions. Bruce
Hey, Ian, Great bit of info, and wonderful photos! Jur brought one of those little fellas up for me to see, when he rode his motorcycle to Amsterdam to meet us, back when Sweet Bride and I were there a few years a back. It was really a nice little stove, and made my mouth water! I tried to divert Jur's attention, by yelling, "LOOK, it's Godzilla"!! Even pointing to some nebulous place behind him did not work, however, and he never took his eyes off that stove, which I had hoped to snag, in the confusion!! Jur was just too smart for me.......!! 8) Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
