i am new here, and new to collecting stoves. I just recently got into collecting when a friend gave me an old coleman 2 burner. For me these old coleman stoves bring back so many good memories of my younger days i can just sit and stare at them and daydream for hours. I am on Ebay constantly looking for different stoves and one day hope to get myself a nice old 3 burner coleman. I cant wait to take this old coleman apart and repaint her and make her look as new as possible and then fire her up and use her! I have had a coleman 2 burner propane a few years ago that i stupidly sold for next to nothing, but it didnt hold the same appeal to me that the old gas colemans do. my wife thinks i'm crazy, but let's me enjoys my new hobby i will be around here alot asking questions etc... so thanks for the help in advance!

Hi Suprz: I believe there is a common consensus here that amongst "normal" folks, wives included, we stovies, as a group, are considered to be just a bit out of step. What makes it work for us is that it is common knowledge that one of the first symptoms of being a stovie is that you don't care what anyone else thinks of your affliction as long as you believe that there is just one more stove out there with your name on it. \ \ I have previously entertained the thought that we should make available to our respective SWMBO's their own affiliated group. I propose that it be named "Stovies' Wives Auxiliary Group, or SWAG for short. Ya' know that little bag they use in the land of Oz!! (BTW I hope my SWMBO does not see this! ) I can personally attest to the fact that if you are persistent enough most wives usually give up #-o #-o and let you pursue you hobby in peace. =D> =D> Gordon
I am new as well, but welcome! I have a similar story to yours. My grandfather used to cook w/ a Coleman when we would go on family roadtrips. I have 2 gas stoves at the moment, but 2 more are on the way. I also have a propane cooker my dad built for frying fish back before the turkey fryer craze started. It is a burner from the curing system of a tobacco barn, a metal milk bottle crate, and a homemade windscreen. Welcome!
thanks for the warm welcome! but what else would you expect from stove people? I have been on Ebay so much looking around it is getting me dizzy! I guess my next stove is going to have to wait for next payday, just got the repair bill for my wife's jeep $773.00!!!! but i WILL get the nice old 3 burner coleman!
Hey, Suprz, Don't forget to look in antique stores, flea markets, swap meets, garage sales, and thrift stores, like The Salvation Army stores. There is a very good chance that you can find a nice Coleman 3-burner for very little coin, in such places!! I have two of them, the first bought at a swap meet, for $21, including the original box and goodies, and the second, bought at a Salvation Army Thrift Store, last Summer, for just $6.93!!! Can't beat the deals you can score in such stores, so get out and burn some shoe leather, and I'm betting you will be glad you did!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I have a few salvationarmy stores close by to me, and i wil be makig them part of my "route" i will have to wait till the weather gets better before i can hit the flea markets, garage sales etc... darn cold weather! really puts a crimp in my camping also!
Hi suprz, You don't say where you are but ifyou're in or near a fairly large town or city, have a look in craigslist. Once you learn their protocols, which are dead easy, an amazing number of good deals show up over time. It has become one of my go-to spots for toys and even essentials. Don't make the mistake many beginning collectors make of buying everything they see. Many stoves were and are made in their uncountable millions and will be oozing out of the system for decades to come. Be paitent. On the other hand, if you see something that "speaks to you," and it is cheap enough, go for it. Gerry

Gordon, thanks for the info, but i think it would cost more than the original price if he was to ship it to me! I have looked on my local craigslist, and tried putting in "coleman" 'coleman stove" , "camping" etc.. but havent found anything yet, just the regular propane stoves/griddles/BBQ's I just got back from my local salvation army and they didnt have any camping gear at all. but i have 2 more to check out this weekend

He wants $50. in the ad, maybe you could work out a deal with shipping if he still has it. You have to respond with e-mail in this case and if you are computer literate, it should be easy. I have no income at present, so can't help with the purchase or anything, but they show up on Craigs all over the country. Best of everything! Randy Oh, the stove lists in "Golden, Colorado" which is really just a suburb now and included in the Denver metro area. It's where they make Coors....or used to..... Molson bought 'em out, brewery is still there and making something.....beer....or beer like....
well, as luck would have it, craigslist just made a liar out of me! I just checked craiglsist Massachusetts and sure enough there is a coleman lantern (w/case) and a 2 burner stove for $25.00! i just sent him an email so i can take a look at it on Sunday. I really dont want the lantern, so i could always sell the lantern for a fast 15-20 dollars, and get my money back for the purchase! but i still have to get myself an old 3 burner! i cant wait to hear it with all 3 burners fired up at full bore!
Hello suprz If your wife think you are crazy, I dare not ask my wife what she thinking about me 8) I started collecting five years ago, and today I have more than 80 stoves 20 pressure lamps and lots of spare parts She doesn?t say anything, but sometimes I can se what she is thinking Beware of stove virus - it's dangerous but beautiful.
My wife once gave me grief over purchasing three stoves in a week. Next time we passed the local airport, there was a display of vintage planes. I turned to her and asked, "Wouldn't it be fun to rebuild an old airplane?" That was her last complaint about stoves. There are plenty of more expensive hobbies one can have than camping stoves. ....Arch
