I saw that the Old Grouch had some used 111 parts on flea bay last week and figured that he may be nearing the end of the surplus 111T's that he had on hand. I went to the website today to order another one just to have on hand and found out that they are all gone and he doesn't expect to get any more in. They were good stoves for a reasonable price, while they lasted.

They were a good price, lets see if the few 111's on ebay go up in price now that source is gone

Those pot rests were a pretty good buy the last time that I saw the bidding. I was interested in the pumps, probably should have bid, but all but one of them were the O ring style, so I backed off. The funny part though is that I would have thought that the Old Grouch would have had a larger inventory of used parts to rebuild the stoves that he sold. He must have rebuilt and sold hundreds of those 111's in the recent year or two. Maybe those 4 or 5 used parts listing are just the beginning of what he has.

The price on flea bay probably will be affected somewhat, but thats OK. I just switched gears and ordered a couple of those enders 9061's from Omaha Surplus, before they sell out. I think that I'll have my work cut out for me when they arrive as they sound like they are a little complicated to get apart and rebuild. That flea bay is awfull funny. I have been watching a few of these enders 9061's sell on flea bay for quite a bit more than they are selling for at Omaha Surplus. Thanks to the guys on a CCS thread I found Omahas website who is selling these enders classics for around 29 bucks and reasonable shipping to boot.

A sad day indeed. My first 111 was an old grouch special. Now I can't even count how many various 111's I have.

I'm getting a bit worried. I ordered a 111 from the Old Grouch in January; the Pay Pal transaction was dated the 28th. To date, I haven't seen the stove, and he hasn't responded to my inquiry...... I know that others have commented about the slowness of his shipping department... Any advice?

ULYSSES (Paul) I had the same problem with an ebay, PayPal, order placed on Jan 13th, 08. About Feb 15th, I called Tim at Old Grouch, toll-free 888-627-0361, to say that I had not received it, and he was unable to determine where or when my stove had been shipped. He immediately shipped one out and I received it in a few days. I found him to be eager to get the stove to me. Give him a call. Hank

Thanks for the advice, and the phone number. I called today and spoke to Buddy, Tim's father. He was very nice and clearly concerned that I hadn't received the stove. Tim is in the reserves and is away for two weeks training. He had a stove and I'm confident that I'll eventually get one. An additional bit of good news is the Buddy said he had parts for the 111s. He may be an additional source for 111 parts.

I am mad at myself. I was going to get another one for a Medical mission trip to Honduras this fall.

    Rats.

Give them a call at the number in Hank's message. I got the impression he had a supply of parts, perhaps enough to make up a stove or two. Your humanitarian mission may move the Old Grouch to find a stove for you. It may be worth a try.

Hi all, I bought an Old Grouch special a few months ago. Glad I did now that they are gone. Here it is burning kero heating water for hot chocolate. Works a treat!

btw I am the guy who needed a wind screen for my Svea 123 last year. Gerry (nordicthug) was kind enough to send me one for which I am still very appreciative. Thanks Gerry.

    Hey Tim,
That is a great cause! My friend did a few rotations in Honduras, with the From the Heart Foundation. Her stories about her time there could really make one think.

Even if the Grouch is out, you should be able to find an occasional deal on ebay. If you get stuck and really need one, let me know. For this I would consider parting with one of my 111s. Do you fettle?

I will make a call tomorrow. Thanks for the information.

I do indeed fettle! My 111T was one of the early ones and I changed it over to the leather cup pump assembly (thank you Sefa!) and general cleanup and adjustment.

It has been quite a workhorse on many Scout campouts since then.

The mission will fly from Denver to San Pedro Sula and then bus to La Entrada and the outlying towns for work.

    Could be interesting.

    Tim,
What all was involved with the switch from the o-ring to the leather cup on the pump assembly?

I ordered from A&H a new pump assembly from a 111/111B stove. I thought about working on the 111T existing pump assembly, but figured I'd rather throw the whole thing in the parts box. On two occasions, the o-ring 'plug' came off the pump rod and got stuck down the tube.

Figured any 'work' I did would weaken the part and get me more time spent getting parts out of the pump tube.

It really works much nicer now. Just for fun I went outside today and lit the stove for no reason at all and boiled some water in an old coffee pot.
