well actually I cant take credit for the fettling job, I just made it look shiny all the credit for the fettling job has to go to adibrook who I bought the lovely primus 96 from. some before photos. the fettling has begun. and here is the final result. some pictures of the really crisp engravings and finally picture with the tin it came with, windscreen and spanner. one more photo of the vandalized tin this was inside the burner. is it soposed to be? could someone tell me the age of this primus? it has no dating code underneath, but im guessing its quite new and that the tin might be originale from after optimus took over the primus brand. or am I completely far out here?
That mesh is very important to the vaporization of the kero. It transfers heat into the fuel and increases the surface area. Sort of like the fins on radiator... My Optimus 96 has one just like it... I understand the stove doesn't work right without it. I've never tried though.
no White vinegar i used kerophiles "secret" recipe wih the wallpaperpaste and citric acid. thanks for the compliment on the job
Thanks. I just found Kerophile's "secret" recipe and plan to use it myself on a well-tarnished, well-traveled 111T, along with a new paint job. Hank
Hey, Alex, Very, very nice job of polishing up that neat 96! They ARE wonderful little stoves, and I remember the first time I got one. I was in love with it, even before I fired it up. After it started almost like turning a key, that just cemented my love of this little stove, and now and I have more than several of them!! Way to go, Lad!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hey Alexander , Heres its twin .......................... Spooky EH ?? Theres some 'History' to your , very nice , Optimus 96 , ..... About 3 years ago , I bought a 'Job lot' of 96 & 00 stoves ... Ex ' Duke of Edinburgh' ?? award equipment ............ One of which I Swapped with Adi last Year at Newark (CCS Annual camp meet) ... For a lovely optimus 8r ........... Ex Chuck ?? ( silver case ) . I also can find no date indication on the 96 ..... Optimus didnt date there products .. The best we can hope for is for some knowledgeable stovie to come along & tell us that , that style of tin c/w with that style of pump plunger/reserve cap were introduced in 197.? & discontinued in 198.? or such . Lovely polish on yours ... if I remember correctly it also exibits a lovely , true blue , flame . Stove world = Small world . Nick
WOW I almost fell out my couch now, whats the probability??? does your say optimus or primus on the tank? ye really hope someone has some more info about these lovely little stoves hint hint
Hi Alexander , Small stove world . Mine is Optimus ... But looking at our respective photos , Of a different ' vintage' to yours .. see the reserve position for the travelling cap ... yours is on a boss on the tank , Mine screws onto the pump plunger .... Lets wait ... Hoping there'll be be some input from the 'historians' ... I know they lurk around these forums Guessing both stoves will have been in the hands of many young campers .. undergoing Duke of Edinburgh award tasks In the 1960's /70's ?? .. probably using Bulldog billys & Vango Force 10 tents .. All good solid & reliable . Now how about a 00 ?? . Lead me not into temptation Nick
just bought a optimus 00 marked patent when I was home for easter holiday, it only has one language on the side of the tank, naturally swedish. does this make it like very old or just cheap or something? its also nickel, I hadnt seen any 00 that was nickeled before I found that one. its next on my fettling list so ill post some pics of it soon.
Hi Alexander , Nickle plated 'Patent' Optimus 00.........Yes please ........... Pics of fettle , please . We like pics . Nick
I'm amazed that the ex-Adi 96 was in such lovely condition after being used by Duke of Edinburgh bods . . . .any chance it's tin was swapped ?
