Hi Hope someone can help. I have just taken the NRV out of my Coleman Solus. The rubber inside this was perished and useless. It was a small round tube of rubber that fitted into a cup which was spring loaded inside the valve. Has anyone tried to make a replacement piece of rubber like this? I suspect its too difficult to get a good enough fit. If I can do it what sort of rubber should I use? Any advice would be appreciated. Danny
Hi Danny, Welcome to the Forum ! You need a 3 MM piece of Nitrile Rubber (or Viton), and a leather punch, such as this: Figure out the correct size, Et Voila ! Note: Sometimes you have to trim the little button to fit.
do you happen to have pics of your Solus? for some reason i am on a Solus kick, and am trying to gather as many pics as possible. thanks.
I have the tool and the rubber so thats great... although I think my rubber will be a bit thin... will see. I will try to post a pick when I get it up and running. Thanks Dan
Well. Thanks for the help everybody, I guess I no longer need the advice however as I managed to drop the small brass cup bit from inside the valve through my deck... a place of no return! I will have to put it aside untill I come across an old solus for parts. It is raining here and with no garage to use my deck seemed the perfect place to work...oops

And what have we learned here? Sorry, but I do have an idea for you. Coathanger wire and duct tape. A good flashkight and try at night so the sun does not blind you for the dark under the deck use the duct tape on the end of the coathanger, bent into a small "L" shape Probe the crack...
I tryed that w/ 4 mm thick nitrite, got a rough hr gkass shaped pc, no good. Guess tho if you have the apropriate thickness in the first place w/ help alot.
if you put the nitrile in the freezer before you use the punch... would that reduce the hour glass effect ? ? ? I have no nitrile to try it myself...

Hello, Does anyone know if the Solus NRV bucket is the same diameter as the Swedish types? If so I can send one along. If you can make a punch using steel tubing of the correct inside diameter or the correct diameter after drilling it out, then sharpen the outside of the tube (carefully) you can chuck it in a drill and spin cut the nitrile (Buna-N) material at a relatively low RPM. THe tube ID should be in the neighborhood of 5 to 10 thousandths of an inch larger than the desired disk size as they will run smaller than the tube ID. Rotational cuting will reduce the hourglass effect most likely to a serviceable condition for your application. The tool does need to be somewhat sharp. I use a more exotic cutting punch that has been hardened but it is the same thing basically as a tube. I set up to carve out the disks so that the rotating tool does not quite go all the way through the sheet. One can then pop out the disks afterward. This alleviates the need to unchuck the cutter for each and every disk. Good Luck, Doug
Lacking a punching thing, I usually use the neat scissors on my SAK. And a look of slightly crossed eyed concentration, complete with tip of tongue in corner of mouth....so far so good. A sharp X-acto knife or similar scalpel would do I guess...I have noticed some NRV cups don't need the rubber all the way to the top, depending in the other seating face. For micro height adjustment to compensate for rubber thickness issues you can always shim with bitty bits of tin foil or oven liner in the seat cup I guess. I like mine just ever so barely below the rim of the cup.
Under my deck is a mess, the previous owners of this house managed to destroy a bean bag on it and all the white foam bits are under there. However with a copper rod and some chewing gum and a lot of eye strain I have retrieved the part! Thanks for all the suggestions and offers of help. Dan
