Hi there, thinking of buying this because its nice and red. I know nothing about it so could someone give me the nod as to what it is what it runs on (petrol I reckon)? Also is it usable - can you get spares? Is it worth my cash ? (or is it another Tourist death trap that I read about in a past post?) I have found it for $45. It looks a lot like a PHOEBUS 625 Any help would be nice. Thanks in anticipation.
Hello Parra The stove certainly is a Phoebus 625 clone. But it has one very important improvement - it has a pre-heating spirit cup. So with a bit of luck, you will not ruin the paintwork on the tank when you light it. Well done!
thanks Ed & shagratork i only needed a slight push in the right direction as i thought it looked like a nice bit of kit,and have been reading up on the pheobus 625 since i spotted it,not quite as nice as your nato one Trevor but it will suit me
it is one of the Shmel-1 modifications, a bit spoiled clone of Phoebus 625 it seams to me that it is repainted, I haven't ever seen such a paint on Shmel-1. most of them there painted like this http://foto.mail.ru/mail/gve-82/shmel/42.html but it's another modification To be absolutely sure that it is in a good condition, ask the seller to show the rack with a needle. http://foto.mail.ru/mail/gve-82/shmel/37.html it is often cutted out. some times they are spoiled with rust inside, the neck is made of black steel. take in to consideration that there is a rubber gasket in a pump, not leather like in original Phoebus, it causes some problems.

Thank you Lance, i was a bit busy, and now I am thinking on new frankenstove project), just thinking As concerns spare parts. spare kits are stil produced, they are the same for all Shmel familiy, only jet differs it costs 4$ without mail, $=25RuR http://www.vento.ru/index.php?categoryID=198 there is 2 needls, 2 pump gaskets, O-ring for pump-tank connection, strips for pump and safety valves, 1 jet, 1 asbest-graphite cilinder pump costs 11$ new pump can be used in smel-1 but not revers Dastan and shmel-4 about 50$ on white gas there is no difference in reliability with NEW Dastan or Shmel-4, on automobile petrol Shmel-1 is much better.
thankyou Grigoriy for your message , i have already bought the stove and now its a matter of waiting and hoping its ok,a very big thanks for the link to the spares page as well,i have checked it out and I'll get a set any way ,in your photo's you had alloy pan sets are they available as a spare? nice to hear a bit about them from someone in your part of the world,thank god I use firefox with foxlingo add-on i can read the russian pages 8) , i also bought a new Russian 8r clone so will scour that website for spares for that as well might as well be prepared for an emergency, the spares seem very reasonably priced as well, i really like the look of the new Russian stoves thinking of getting one of each,look to be well made,i have liked Russian stuff since i bought one of the enlargers in a pale blue briefcase sized carry case,that was years ago though thanks Bill
one rack is available, and many-many legs, fire spreaders, some jets but I am not sure that they are in good condition their might be some problems with e-shop to send to the foreing country I can buy it here and resent it to you, but for spare perts it will take time. There is no spare parts for 8r or 123 in the shops, dont waste time, they are not produced for 15 years, but it is still easy to get working 8r from hands
Why does this stove need a jointed jet remover? It has a silent burner and the upper cap is easily opened.

you dont need jet remover, all flame spreaders are easy to take of and a hole in heat regulator handle has the same dimensions with jet, see your 4-th photo, use it, or pliers

Hey Grigoriy, Are you able to find proper jets for those stoves over your country? My Shmel needs new jets and o-ring for her pump.
There are 4 tipes of jets used in shmel family, and I dont know what would be proper for your stove, make photo of your jet. Its ok inside, as new
hi hobowonkabobe it did run really well when it first got here but the plastic pump washer split, i think due to age,i meant to take Grigory up on his offer of grabbing me a few spares,but i have had a load of new stoves arrive and it got put on the shelf and forgotten about ,i think ideally it could do with a complete pump assembly as this one is a bit worn,when it was working it belted out the heat and i was very pleased with it,i really like the case that Grigory showed in his link,if your still up for the spares Grigory let me know please,sorry i didn't get back to you earlier
