 Hi, atip for buying meths, go to chemist and ask for industrial meths.
just the same except the price, will cost you pence instead off ?'s.
    works perfect.
As we have over 20 working primus stoves+4Lanterns+2Heaters,it can soon burn a hole in your pocket.

Oh No ! Confusion, confusion, confusion !!!
    Help me here.
Bettina. Are you saying that you are burning Meths i.e. alcohol, in a Kerosene / Paraffin stove ?
    How does that work?
I thought I was beginning to understand the different fuel types/stove type combinations. Now I'm lost.
    Can you explain please ?

    Spudz

Would this be the same in England?
You don't say where you're from.

 Hi, Meths are used to prime the primus stoves, the tank itself uses parafin.
Yes I am from England. Oldham, Lancs.
There are some meth stoves around, which just burn meths;so industrial meths would certainly be the cheapest option.
Just to cause more confusion your way, you can get burning paste;meths like a thick gell.It is good, but costs more.

Hi Bettina, when you say industrial meths from the chemist, any particular chain of stores like Boots etc? What size bottles and what price do you pay? and what strength?

Look at how to post pictures via www.photobucket.com , it would be good to see some of your stoves and lamps

I've tried 70% industrial meths and it burns poorly

    Take it all back

Since my last post, I tried the industrial meths again, and although it seemed to take a little longer to get to full burn on a trangia burner, it works fine (I had only tried the stuff once before on a non trangia spiritburner)

So, off to the shops tommorow to cost it :)

Try a painters / decorators merchants as they sell meths in 5 litre packs and it is WAY below what you would pay in Chemists or the DIY sheds, I seem to recall it was less than half price.

I only use it as a pre-heater but it seems hot enough.

    Cheers
