From another topic on the MSR Dagonfly I posed the the Question...Which is the better stove: The MSR DF or the Primus multi-fuel. It seemed like the MSR won out! But it was suggested that I look into the optimus Nova which is in the same class as the other two. As far as as money goes, I think you get more accesories with the MSR therefore you get more, but as far as preformace, which is the better stove? Any problems with either? I don't want to be out on the trail and the pump break on me Thanks in advance. Aaron
NOVA!!!! It's more compact when collapsed... It has more metal and less plastic, flip stop for venting the tank, you can clean the jet while lit... I would go with the standard nova not the plus. I don't think the fuel line valve has "proven" itself yet.

if a choice? Nova. the one standing diff? Nova is a multi fuel (one jey tech) where the DF can use kero, don't realy make it a multi-fuel. and at an REI or similar store, you're lookin at about the same price, roughly $130 to $140. I've had this topic pop up alot w/ non memeber enthusiests, and the 3rd and forth option I can make (pathetic there are so few!) were the same kinda deal from Brunton at $127 and the Opti Hiker at $180 (smae mono jet/multi fuel tech as the Nova.

I don't know if i would go that far... I'm sure that many here who accept the more modern stoves* would tend to agree that the XGK and the Dragonfly are the best 2 stoves in the MSR lineup. But with the costs about par... I would/did pick the nova. I might think hard over the primus omni fuel... but not the dragonfly. I'd probably stick with the swedish models... What?!!! How did they get there!?? *There are some that say BAAAGH! unless it's solid brass...
Yes, the Swedish models do it for me every time - as can be seen with the Nova burner in my bomb-proof Nomad.
when it's a kero, yeah, more brass the merrier! But as to the new segrigated tank models, hate to say it, but if my choices were tween a DF and a Primus Vari/omnifuel stove? I'ld get the DF. One reason, I had a Varifuel, one temp! that and it took the better part of 3 mins to turn it off. NOT a favorable asset.rather alarming actualy. No, In order; Nova or hiker, Brunton multi fuel, MER Df, THEN a primus vari/omni fuel...maybe. NAAAH! I'l just go back to ebay for somethin else.
Hey, Qburt, Sorry to be late on this one, but we're on the road, heading to an out of State work gig, right now. Of all the stoves mentioned, I rate the Nova #1, with the MSR Dragonfly #2, and the Primus Omnifuel #3+. All three are good stoves, and you can't go wrong with any of them. However, with the Nova, you get a fuel bottle, too, which MSR does not supply. That's a definite plus in my book! And, I like the metal pumps on the Nova and Omnifuel, though the new MSR pump is way above most of it's predecessors, in terms of strength, and I hope, reliability. Alas this is no longer the case... the current nova ships with a windscreen which is a definite plus but no fuel bottle. (based on what i've seen on the web) My nova came with one... but I don't think the new green handled ones do. Oh well I'm set... oh by the way... I noticed while on the optimus site... the 123r is once again pictured!!!!! 8) 8) 8)
Last year a local store was selling 750ml Karrimor fuel bottles for ?1.60, so I picked up a case of 24 Also picked up some Sigg half litre bottles, factory seconds (small dings to bottle) for 50p/$1 each. They are always useful as a backup 8)
