I recently bought a R&M 1 pint picnic stove on E-bay. I was not sure about what it was so I asked for help and you guys identified the stove. Now on to problem first I found stove had no pump leather in it so I made one first problem solved. Then I had to replace gasket above and below the spirit cup second problem solved. Then I decided to start stove and see how it burned the stove took right off pretty good except that the flame even though it was strong burned unevenly! So I decided to soak the entire burner head in a viniger bath all day when I rinsed the cleaner off and put stove back togather I made sure theire was no vacume in tank screwed down bleader valve primed stove and waited. Then I pumped the stove a couple of times now stove does not want to lite. Flame coming out of fuel jet is weak and lets alot of raw fuel out now flame is at base of jet .I know tank has good pressure so my question is what is your oppinion of probable cause or causes of stove problem? I put burner head back in vineger for a good overnight soak. And one moore thing how do I get fuel jet out it is a litle tight to get at!!!!

    Hi, Eric,
This is my guess: you need a jet wrench. And a new jet.

I have a Veritas (made in UK) that throws a lopsided flame. I know why: the female part that accepts the jet points off center.

I ordered a couple of Monitor full Spare Set from our sponsor, Base Camp, and its wrench is slightly larger than the RM burner, which you have. So it would not enter through the clearing between the "U" tubes. I think you need a wrench that is dedicated to RM.

Since you have soaked the burner head, maybe all the crud inside has loosened up and gathered at the jet.

Maybe someone could shed a llight on this.
If you can get the correct wrench, it will solve your problem easily.

Ok now I put burner head back togather and tried to light stove and even though I put new gassket above and below spirit cup I can see a small bit of flame coming from around gasketon top of spirit cup I wonder if one of my problems might be the gassket material not sealing? And letting out pressure before it can hit the fuel jet? Or it might be that I did jam up the burner head when I cleaned the system with vineger? Thanks Eric. I made sure that burner head was tightened down good ! go figure.

    Hello Eric

If you vinegar dunked the burner without removing the jet then you will most likely have blocked the jet from the crud which was previously inside the burner tubes. Always remove the jet before any such treatment. I would also only immerse in vinegar for about 3 hours at a stretch, longer is not better as it doesn't do the brass any good.

By the way the stove was made by the RM Manufacturing & Engineering Co. Ltd so is really an RM not an R & M

    Good luck with your fettle

A possible clue to the solution to your problem ...
..... try priming the stove with the release valve open, only closing it as the priming flame dies down. Once the priming flame has died out, give the stove 1 or 2 pumps, apply a lighted match or ciggie lighter to the burner and see if the stove lights properly.

Also, don't fill the tank too much with fuel, you need some air in there to pressurise the fuel.

I agree too with what has been said regarding the burner in the vinegar bath, always remove the jet before doing this.
I've managed to successfully clean a few blocked burners by using the 'heat & quench' technique. Again, remove the jet if you attempt this.

Best of luck with the fettle
