Well the site opened just in time!

These 8's are all pre the later No:8R with built in cleaning needle.

This is an old No:8 I recently bought online from Oxfam! £5 plus postage - just under £10 all in. Likely from the 1940- 50's.

It's rough & the key holder has been riveted where the spot weld has broke but it's a goer after a new cap & safety valve washer:

    1218222453-opt8_1_open.jpg 1218222465-opt8_1_lid.jpg 1218222474-opt8_1_burner.jpg 1218222487-opt8_1_top.jpg 1218222502-opt8_1_front.jpg 1218222509-opt8_1_cherryred.jpg

This second one is the same model but restored. The original blue paint was a bit lighter than the paint used.

    1218222591-opt8_2_open.jpg 1218222608-opt8_2_burner.jpg 1218222624-opt8_2_top.jpg 1218222645-opt8_2_front.jpg 1218222660-opt8_2_cherryred.jpg

This one is an earlier model - possibly 1930's to 40's. It is a steel case with some sort of plating on it. The key holder is held in place by a brass rivet. The safety valve is fitted to the underside of the lid. The fuel feed-pipe for the burner is soldered to the tank unlike the later ones that screw out. This one is out of action as it needs a burner as the valve spindle has snapped inside.

"O" stands for Optimus, and "O" stands for Olympics. Here's my interpretation of 08/08/08

    1218227808-P8080141.jpg

And of course we mustn't forget this is the ninth anniversary of 08/08/99, so here's a picture from way back when :D

    Aaah!
I can see that you use Maggi Würze, Arjan!
I have almost become addictive to that stuff.
When we take our trips down to Germany in order to load the car full of good and cheap beer, I always try to get a year's consumption of Maggi with me aswell.

Well, I couldn't let this day pass without lighting a couple of 8's! (One 8 and one 8R)
I just barely made it in time, but when I write this it's actually the 9:th.
I didn't have anything to cook since it's midnight, and I'm up early tomorrow (today), so there wasn't any real action shots.

An old battered cactus had the good taste to honor this special day by going to bloom, and I couldn't resist to let it in since it only bloom one single night during the year.

So I decided to take some photos of my 8r for the WOED. My 8r is what you would call a user stove. I picked it up a while back on e-bay. Some of you may recall the fact that it had been shot prior to my aquisition. I got a new-used case for it without bullet holes.

...So I had some tea. Then my phone rang. It was a co-worker who lived across town... He had found something at a garage sale that he thought might interest me...

    Evening, Friends,

Sweet Bride and I setup some 8R's and had a fine time cooking beef stroganoff and noodles on them! Took some fun photos, too. Unfortunately, I'm at a loss as to how to post them!  I can add them, but they seem too large, even though I took them in 640x480 size. Do I need to do Thumbnails? And if so, how do I accomplish that task? Does each photo have to be under 60K file size, or does your entire post, complete with all photos have to stay under that size? I have 14 photos to include, and even in the small size, they add up to far more than 60K! I know I will have to relearn some stuff here at the new CCSv3, and that's cool. But, until I do that, I'm at a loss as to how to post photos. Ye Gods, shades of PhotoBucket!!!  :( Happy 8-8-08!!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc and Sweet Bride

Thanks & welcome to the forum. I good time to join us - it's likely more difficult for the regulars here being used to the old place :)

Posts with straight pictures of stoves should ideally be placed in the relevant Stove Reference Gallery. As this is a WOED post I will merge this to the WOED post in the Event Gallery. ;)

Doc - there's more to size than the width & height - what is the file size in kb?

Well dug me 99 out as I ain't got a 8r. Hope it qualifies.
Aint used it for a while.
No Shellite to be found in town in the normal places :( So I ended up getting some from Bunnings in the big smoke. Boy they don't miss you there!!!
    |imgRemoved|'thumb'
Must have dripped a bit over the side filling up as I turned it up side down to heat the burner head with the lighter and a bit dripped out.So I lit that up on an angle to heat the tank. then cracked the valve and before long it was up and running  Took a bit but I think a dry wick and a bit full may not have helped much.

    Just pouring a cuppa.
Hell I might even put a pricker in it one day again!! Still works besides having to braze the burner basket on an all that.

    Cheers
Barra :D (bloody devils fooled things)Got to love'em but!!!!

In observance of WOED, I cooked my afternoon ramen, and some mashed potatoes and Lipton tea, on one of my 8Rs. A wonderful time was had by all.

    Morning, Ross,

Thanks for the shout! The first photo we took is 143kb, the second is 138kb, the third, 124kb, etc., and the total size of all 14 photos is 1.9MB. Too large, eh? What do I do next? Our little Nikon is set to take photos as small as it can take, so I'm not sure what will help in this case. As a related note, my article on rebuilding the MSR stoves and pumps contains 47 photos, and they are similar in size as the ones we took last night. Interesting, eh? Thanks for any suggestions you can offer, and I'll talk to you soon. We're off to spend a day running errands down the mountain, including picking up some JBL cabinets and components for the dream speaker system I've wanted to build for the last 30 years!! :D/ :D/ :D :D Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    Doc,

Like you, I was having some trouble with the sites loading procedure (size was my issue too) so I just did it the old way, for now, using photobucket. It worked.
