I suggest you try the optimizer Ross mentioned, and have linked at several places. It's very easy to use, and the result is fine. If I take a regular camera shot that's around 2MB and upload from my computer to the optimizer, I instantly get a neat photo that's only 40-50KB, and better adapted for the web! And it's easy to change to another size than the default if desired. After that you simply download the new picture back to your computer where it's ready for CCS publication. All in all an operation of a minute or two.
Ross, Thanks for the help. As I use this site more frequently, I will get better accustomed to the format Glenn
Thanks Ross can't find the edit button Looks like I'll have to read up more if I can stumble across it till I figure out this new fangled setup. Bruce
I'm quickly learning that image editing software seems to be a missing link between camera & internet. I fear Photobucket will have to take server space on the moon soon or start charging for more space - OH - they are already doing that! There is an online optimiser linked from the site & Christers post which may help until we get some links to free software tutorials posted.
So, as lead architect and chief banger-on about WOED, Mr Prime-Us is noticable by his absence. C'mon Prime-Us show us your Eights
Here’s my offering for WOED I don’t own many 8s, well 2 actually so here goes. No 1 Fettled a couple of years ago and resplendent in it’s new coat of Ford Cosmos blue, new case sticker c.o. Ian. It lit first time. So here’s a bit of CR Next up is a brand new still in the box jobbie. Shall I light it, yes, no. It has a lighter blue hammerite sort of finish to the case. Shall I light it, yes, no. Bit pretty to set light to. But I ask myself. Shall I light it, yes, no. Oh alright then, you’ve convinced me, just as it’s WOED Took a while to get going as the wick was obviously bone dry. And here’s the 2 together, lovely bit of CR
Nice pics Henry - I forgot I have an 8R boxed like yours too - a pressie from Optimus - one of the last produced. As you probably gathered Photobucket is allowed in this forum (it ain't a reference section)
I only PB them as I haven't got around to learning to do it the grown up way yet. I must read the tutorial. I'm still trying to find my way around
Looking forward to you getting the hang of posting pics here Henry - it looks like you know how to get a quality picture down to a decent file size! (30-50kb)
Hi, I marked this important day, 8/8/08, by using my trusty Optimus 8R to brew-up my morning tea My co-ordinates were: 58deg 35'17.5'' NORTH 03deg 30'54.3'' WEST Best Regards, Kerophile
WOED was a screaming success here in Northern Arizona. We just got back to civilization (and WiFi) Here are a few photos of half of my Optimus 8 collection, along with some doofus holding my stove, My one and only true love, Barb (like the wire) whose birthday happened to fall on WOED, the LaPosada in Winslow, The Grand Canyon and a shot of the stove with the little oil can that I use to carry and apply priming alcohol. We came from Carpinteria on the train and have been walking everywhere (except for the shuttle van to/from the Canyon). The Grand Canyon is Barb's favorite place; we've been rim-to-rim several times and down to Phantom Ranch more times than I can count, but we couldn't get a space this time; they're available by lottery 13 months ahead of time and are sold out almost instantly. Thanks to everybody who made this the best WOED ever, and especially thanks to Ross for your excellent and tireless work on the site. Gary
Greetings, Friends, PrimeUs, great photos of the special day!! Your experience in getting shut-out of a campsite at the Grand Canyon mirrors what goes on in CA, most of the time, as you probably know. Bummer! The days of deciding to go camping, and then just heading out and picking a spot, are long gone. We had a stay at home dinner on WOED. Here are some shots of the 8R family we got to enjoy that night. Dinner that night consisted of beef stroganoff, made from a nice prime rib that Sweet Bride had cooked up some months ago. We froze some, and that was the basis for our main meal. Here is the cooking setup. The basics: cubed prime rib, onions, fresh garlic, and a few other spices, go into the Primus Pot, and onto the 8R. Some thyme added. Ummmmmmm!! Then, some sour creme and some white wine, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. We usually use mixed mushrooms, too, but alas, did not have any on hand that night. It was great, anyway! Another of the 8R family got to do pasta water, and is boiling away, happily. Sweet Bride, enjoying cooking her special stroganoff on the 8R! And, here we are, almost ready go dig in to the wonderful meal! Cheers, Lads!! Last, a photo of the night's fare, compliments of Sweet Bride, and part of our family of 8R stoves!! Hope you all have a happy, and enjoyable WOED, as did we!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc and Sweet Bride
