Hi, Earlier work on improvised flame-plates and the recent acquisition of a Shinabro 680 got me thinking. The Primus No.10 has the same large burner as the Primus No.6, a 4.25-pint stove and the Primus Nos.7 and 8, both 7-pint stoves My big silent burner does not have a central spigot sticking up from the vapourisation chamber, so a flame plate should be possible. Overall diameter of "skirt" on my Silent burner is 80mm. Overall diameter of 440ml WD40 spray can is 60mm It worked on first attempt. Very Noisy, Powerful and wind-resistant....particularly with priming windshield in place. It was blowing 25mph on the day of the experiment, yet this burner still quickly boiled a kettle outdoors. Nice one Kerophile. Might I suggest that the legs of the plate turn into a hook and sit in in the bell like the Korean stoves with silent and roarer plates?? Don't want to be a party pooper but I would like to see how the centre ring holds up to being cherry red from the plate and not being heated by convected heat from the sides like when the caps are on it. Though the korean ones would melt/ leak if it were a problem so I guess two thumbs up. Says I with not credentials Bruce Spuds I think made something for a normal silent but can't remember now.
Hey Kerophile, Thanks for sharing your wonderfull invention with us. May I suggest you to also consider a roarer flame spreader like the ones that Phoebus 725 stoves use.
Yeah, substitute with hairspray, oven cleaner or what you have at hand A mans toolbox consists of two things: WD40 and ducttape. If it is loose and should stay use ducttape. If it's stuck and should be loose then WD40.
If the bailing wire is too thin use No8 fencing wire. It can be used for anything from engine mounts to tent pegs.
