Hello all I was looking around the links above on this page and found one to a German store Stuba Cabana - www.hytta.de. There I found that they sell NEW pressure stoves, at a price in euros that makes sense. I had a look at the following stove: "Petroleumkocher Prabhat No.1 S mit Leisebrenner S815" Does anyone have any extra info. on these stoves? They appear to be from Russia, are they worth the money? As a total newbie, buying a NEW stove, instead of a used 2nd hand stove that may require some 'fettling', has a lot of appeal for me. I never was much good with the hands! Any comments please? Spudz
I think Prabhat Enterprises are Indian manufacturers of stoves. Perhaps another example of the Indian product being rebadged for sale elsewhere. Like the Original brand sold here as The Everest Stove, and sometime earlier being sold as Brytlight too. Fr Laurence
Hello, my friend has a Phrabhat No. 1 R from www.hytta.de He did not used it very much but up to now performs well. In my mind they are totally worth the money.. Phrabhat was a former licensee for Petromax in India Regards, Christoph
I imagine that if you were an import company and wanted samples of the various stove sizes and lantern as manufactured by Indo-International Prabhat for testing purposes they would send those to you for a very good price or put you in contact with a reputable local Indian reseller who could help. I'm told that those type of stoves complete sell for about 5 euros in India. http://www.indo-international.com/ Here's a list of some of some Indian pressure stove and lantern suppliers and exporters; http://dir.indiamart.com/indianexporters/kerosene-lamps-lanterns.html
Ken, Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I'm just a lowly I.T. drone, so no chance of convincing Indo-International of sending me some sample pressure stoves. Nice idea though, I'll store that away for possible future use. One never knows who / what one will meet next week! The stoves look O.K. though, don't they? If Indo-International are supplying parts to other manufacturers here in europe, the quality should be o.k. ... no ? A price of 5 euro for a pressure stove from India sounds wonderful, but to be honest the price from www.hytta.de was not too expensive either, IF the stoves are good quality! Christoph, thanks for the information, I'll definitely keep them in mind for a first NEW stove purchase. Spudz
All of the pictured stoves had fixed legs. If you're looking for a back packable stove, none of them would be suitable. If I were in your situation, I would do some serious looking for an Optimus 00 or Primus 210. If you could find one in good condition, or even better, an "L" model in a tin, you'd be in fine shape. If you are going to be doing some serious hiking where fuel supplies are dicey and a good reliable stove is a real necessity, the Brunton Nova or similar might be more suitable. Gerry
Nordicthug Had a look on the stovecollector.tripod.com site. I see what you mean about the Optimus 00 - Primus 210 stoves. Lovely !! I would be VERY happy with one of those, but is it really possible to pick them up now, without having to sell the children to pay for one ?? Thanks guys for all the great help and advice Spudz
Spudz, Get yourself a Trangia, it will do all your Globetrotter did and more. Meths in Italy is "Alcol denaturato" The 210 and 96 are great stoves, but going from gaz to them is a bit of a leap, get the Trangia first then worry about the classic stoves; you won't go wrong.
Oh dear"! So much more information and pictures here. Beware the narrow descriptions and miscaptioned photographs on that long abandoned site. A product of a brief interest and major information trawl of other sites on the web and ebay from what I can see. Please remain behind afer class!
Absolutely ! ! Keep your eyes open on ebay and local yard sales and flea markets. I see 00's and 210's frequently on ebay. Look for the ones that are missing legs and flame rings. these parts are available and having them gone knocks the price way down. Parts can be a bit pricey, but buying 'em as needed spreads the cost out, making it less painful. Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Brass-C...240150921QQcategoryZ16036QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem My 00 ended up costing about $50.00 US but it wasn't all at once. Wonderful little stove! Gerry
He's right ! I have seven 210s although one of them is just about a scrapper, but I'm eyeing a couple more. They really are most useful and versatile stoves and are the mainstay of my camp cooking these days. I also find them, especially the 'real' ones with the Primus tank and the pretty feet, particularly attractive. What nicer way is there to transport a pint of paraffin?
They were the 1st pressure stove I discovered. I looked around for "usable info"-which is how I came to be on this forum, actualy- and all the info I got was to ignore them and look to the Swedes for a good one. Been hooked ever since
