I'm having trouble finding any info on my little stove. Anyone out there have any insight on it for me? I'm wondering if it was even used in the military.

About 6 years ago I picked it up secondhand with zero explanations except a little provenance. Back then I found 1 other example with no name and nearly no paint. This one is army green, but I believe the other was blue. I'm pretty sure mine is the original and the other was probably a remake.

Anyone care to share a bit of info? It would be greatly appreciated! I have a bit more info to relate to the stove as well. I'll post some better shots soon. Isn't it just darlin'?

I've spent hours and hours looking for info, but I feel I am finally talking in the right ears finally -- don't let me down, guys! I dying to hear from you. Thanks so much!

Here is an exchange from last year on this stove. "Steelman" had lots of great pictures of his stoves and was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Fantastic stoves!! Looks like like a lot of fun for all. Steelman: What do you know about the little double fount military looking stove in the twelth photo from the top? This one has been in our mystery stove section for some time without any definitive information being provided. I have two of them and would like to find out as much as I can about them. Thanks. Gordon
The little double fount military stove...
My friend tell me... This classical stove was found in 1971 from the vacation spot of US army deployed in Taiwan for Vietnam War. At that time there were 2 units appeared at US resort in Taiwan, one was brand-new, the other was used and malfuntion. My freind bought the used one and repaired it well. We assumed that this stove was developed for trying to replace existing stove 530 used by infantryman which occupied bigger volume and was not easy to be carried. It was supposed to be designed and used in 1950-1960 but ceased after one lot of trial version due to pre-heating system to which the US soldiers couldn't get used. Next US army began adopting the stove model No. 536 of M1950 again that was redesigned upon the the stove 530 and officially recongnized to be one of the military equipments. in the mid period of Vienam war this stove was disappeared.

One of the best designs I've ever seen. It's probably much more compact and balanced than coleman military stoves. Pity they did not use it, it looks like a better alternative to be used on the field.

Hi There was a similar one of sale on US Ebay about a month or so ago.

It had a Nantick Soldier Labs sticker on it from memory. Thre was a bit of a thread on CCV2 on the stove but I cannot find it now..

I believe the general concensus was that the stove was an experimental US arm model. and Nantick being an equipment development and trial centre would seem to confirm this.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Thanks everyone for your info., it was very helpful. I was in a way hoping you guys would say they are plentiful, fire it up and enjoy it, because I surely like to. I had a hunch that wasn't going to be the case. Being a avid collector of old tools and toys, I can certainly relate to rarity and condition. All these years I just couldn't bring myself to soil it its just too clean. Honestly I thought it might stump you guys and leave you scratching your heads a bit. Then I was going to reveal a surprise that on the lid it has a black plastic badge reading: "Developed By United States Army QM R&E Command Natick. Mass." I honestly thought someone did remake it from the one I saw online some years ago, but maybe not. Hope I didn't offend anyone by not including the badge originaly, it was only ment in fun. I'll definately add some pictures of the badge and instructions as soon as possible. I feel like "poling" everyone asking would you use it? But I think I already know the answer. It's like a toy with no batteries. Again thanks much guys, look forward to hearing back from you. Chris

We actually have permission from the seller of the one on ebay that was so marked to add the pictures to the site. I plan to let a few more days of dust-settling to take place here then I will go into posting new material mode!

Thanks Ross, If you want, I'd be more than happy to do the same with the pictures. If you want more, or specific shots let me know. Great site by the way. Enough to make me wish I had a stove collection of my own. I guess it's never to late. Chris

Well... I had to do it. If I hung onto it it probably would have just got packed away. Plus I'd a felt like I was just hoarding it. Im sure it will bring plenty of enjoyment to someone's collection. When my funds are a bit better, I certainly now know were to chase down a sweet classic stove of my own (usable). Ross, feel free to use all additional photos. I tried to give a good lid shot, paper instructions and under side.

    Thanks again guys.

    Chris

I had to unfortunately follow my wallet at the time, and put her on the auction block. Obviously cant mention were, but wouldn't be too hard to find. If I wasn't in such a jam, I certainly would have cought it up in trade for a sweet older( usable) stove. I'm sure it will still be well loved.
    Thanks Chris

Old Chris Topher has or had an interesting prototype US army stove.. He posted about it here a while ago I guess the post has been 'shifted' to the Military stoves section or something...

It would appear from Chris Topher's post above and some crystal ball gazing (cross my palm with silver     )

That said stove is now up for sale on probably a large internet auction site. ;) ;) ;)

Consulting my Crystal ball once more I think Robert has spotted it on said Internet Auction Site and is commenting that it is likely to sell for a large sum of money.

Communing with my psychic side has left me quite drained I'm off for a cup of soy chai latte made on a non prototype stove that is not for sale.. ;) Currently.... ;) ;) Unless someone on this site tells me its worth a bit of cash then I might with some arm twisting be convinced to part with it. But I'll post to let you know It's for sale but I wont be 'Pimping" my sale if I do... ;) ;) ;) ;)

    Back to the shed....

    John

Well. Knowing that, the post make some sense!

I looked up the old topic and merged this with it, so that people might stand a chance to understand what it's all about.

Quite a crystal ball ya got there johnsnz. I certainly appreciate the clarification on that. The sad truth is , chasing a buck when your five bucks behind will make you concider "pimpin" the dog. I definately owe you a soy chai latte on a non proto stove someday. Thanks on the link of threads Christer. Chris

Yes, but as oops also says it's a once in a lifetime. So how much do we spend on stoves over say a 4-6 month period? Would that cover the cost? Are other stoves not bought in that period more common and likely to have other versions appear? Just some philosophy to apply to buying over a period of time rather than just looking at a single item!

Additionally, be interesting to see if this sale brings any others out of the woodwork? We just don't know - could be another 50 odd out there lurking if it went for a reasonable field test. And why didn't it go into production? Is it in fact a POS didn't work to spec. What value then?
