Woot. Just bought an Optimus #1 with originalbox, instructions and nozzle cleaners off trade me for $42 NZ. It was sooooooo exciting counting down the seconds to auction close and waiting to see if anyone would out bid me. They didnt and now Im waiting with bated breath for it to arrive in the post.
I missed out on 3 Trangia meths burners for a similar price and was glad as my failure there led to this wee beauty which I dont have a model of or any thing like.
Im looking forward to dating it using the very useful charts on this site. It looks almost unused in the photos and even the top burner ring is still brass coloured which is promising to the extreme.
I have no idea how much these usually sell for, but reckon I might have scored a bargin. Now I just have to grind my teeth and wait with my can of brasso at the ready.

Trade Me is New Zealand's version of Ebay, but unfortunatly, it's only for them... :frown:
However, you can ask one of our NZ members to act as a go btween :D
I've had dealings with several, Fine folks !!!
PS. for Coleman, you're better off buying local, overseas shipping is $$$$$$

Bajabum is right alas. however, there is a set of coleman generators there now. not sure if its what you are after, but have a look. you dont need to join to browse. go through sports/camping outdoors/.../cookers
If its worth it to you, and you cant get them else where... message me, but I think you will be able to find them closwer to home for less money.
Good luck. Actually, theres some lovely old peices just come on there. Im watching intently

Yup, thanks kiwi! Went, and the ones I just saw (pair, 1 in package) and another listing are curved in shape, intended for single-burners I think -- however, I'm looking for a specific size to fit a 2-burner Coleman model 431 or similar.

DID see an old Canadian 4M Coleman there that would be a nice little project for someone so inclined locally if obtained at teh right price. Not that anyone would need another project

    Best,

    Michael

Hard to tell from 2 pics, and a question better answered by the more experienced types around here -- while not in pristeen shape I have seen far rougher ones. The manifold and burner grates are a little rusty but the case seems not bad and I always liked that bronze fuel canister's appearance.

You may have already seen it but bajabum gave a link to a great site on rebuilding these things, some of which I may do myself on mine: :-k

The starting price is pretty fair for a working stove I would think but who knows where it will go...the ad says as is.

    Gidday Ramenoholic,

I hope you're getting your fix of noodles in cold Dunedin, I hear you're in for a cold blast any minute. Nice work on the Optimus No 1, I have a Primus No 1 in a similar condition (box, prickers etc). You got it for a good price for TradeMe. Before I left NZ I started to sniff around the second hand auctioneers, I got mine for $20 there.
My 2c worth: brass kero stoves are easier to fettle than old Colemans! If only because of the brass vs. steel factor, less corrosion to deal with. Kero is a bit safer to play with in the shed as well. I had a couple of good eyebrow singes when learning to drive my Kampkook (my fault, freely admitted, I don't wish to start a "flame" war).
Looking forward to seeing pics of your No. 1, don't forget the before and after shots!

    Cheers, Tom
