OK, Ive got 2 of these wee beauties and there are variations between them. Im wondering are they both Optimus 8s or clones or????????

anyway, the first stove has the fuel cap with a pentagon shaped hole for gas release/pumping and round where the pump fits. the finger grips are a crosshatched pattern. and inside the fuel cap, the tube goes down about 2cm.

The burner has no grooves on the 4 cross peices of the central thingy.

The 2nd stove has a square hole and hexagonal shaped pump fitting thingy peice and vertical grips, and inside, only goes down about 5 mm (no photo) and the burner has grooves on the central crosspeice bit.

both have the same chains to hold the key, same tanks, heat shields, and original metal coloured tins, although 1 has been spray painted black. (to be cleaned and re painted)

The join in the fuel tank is more to the centre of the shinbro clone. GR 170

This clone is just as good as the optimus stove.

I think your stoves are both 8r's. Especially as the pump fits them.

None of my stoves have that tube under the cap.

However if you do get a clone in your collection thats not a bad thing at all.

    Yay for clones!

mmmm, Im sure the one with the hexagonal bit is an 8R, and the cap is the adaptor cap that goes with the pump (after spending a couple of hours reading thru old fettle threads), not sure about the other. maybe it is also an 8R just with a different fuel cap. Hmmmmmmm.
I wish the pump fitted my SVEA tho.
still, all I would have to do is switch caps I guess.

oops. I meant the pentagonal hole and round cap piece one, rather than hexagonal.

Are you saying the pump does not work without that bit under the cap?
I always imagined that you could buy one pump and use it on all many stoves svea, primus 71, optimus 80 8r 8...
    I guess I was wrong.

The Midi or Mini pump needs a special fuel cap.

Swapping the cap to the 123 should work.

The optimus 8R had a long production life changes to parts and the tooling that made them was part of production life for optimus as it is with any manufacturer. A good search through the forums will yield lots of information on the 8R.

    Cheers

I suspect they are both 8Rs but I also agree that clones are interesting as well. As already mentioned the different looking cap is what comes with the pump and will fit a 123r. The chain link style is pretty distinctive for the Swedish stoves. The other thing to check is the hinge and carry handle, if there is one; the hinges are sometimes different on the clones.

I also believe both are Optimus 8. And I have also seen different versions of the burners on Optimus 8 models. Mine has the fuel tube coming more on the left side (not in the middle) of the fuel tank, looking from the tank that is.
