Good Evening, Friends, As you know, today I was blessed to come into a second Swiss Borde stove, to go with my first one! The first, I found at "that same old swap meet", for all of $35, July 4, 1994. Today's Borde worked out to be about the same price, at $34.50. Nice to know that the price has not changed in all those years!! : ) Thanks to The Lord, for two such bits of wonderful good fortune!! My original one was the #33, which is the naked stove, but which I turned into a #60 with the wonderful custom windscreen, cobbled together by one of our CCS Stove Mates (Thanks, CB!) The one I received today, was the Borde #56, which came with it's own, folding case, which, when unfolded, becomes it's pot support. Neat design, which works very well, as I found out tonight! Here are some photos I took of my two Brothers Borde, face to face. The first one, the #33/60, is on the left, and the one I got today, the #56, is on the right. Here is a shot of them each, individually, doing what they do best. Face to face. Both stoves had a little flaring, as you will see in the next two photos. That settled down, as they got hotter, and as I adjusted each stove. Here, I tried to turn each of them down a bit, to see what kind of simmering flame they offered. You will soon see that both burners are slightly different in manufacture. One sits much higher above the vapourizer loops, and the other much more short and squat, and much closer to the loops. That played a large part in the performance of each burner. More on that later. Note, the new one, the #56, has a much better simmering flame. If I turned the other one, with the higher burner, down any more than what you see, the flame got unstable, yellow, flared quite a bit, and threatened to go out. In point of fact, I was actually able to crank the #56 down even further, and here's what he looks like, just barely cranked open! An OUTSTANDING simmering flame!! But, he also had a HUGE and very hot flame, when cranked up to full roar!! OH, YEAH! This is one neat little stove!! 8) Here they are, once again, face to face, but turned off. You can easily see the difference in actual manufacture. Though I've always been super happy with my original Borde, on the left, I must admit that this recent addition is MUCH more powerful, and also more responsive to simmering! From this limited experience, I have to conclude that the short, squat burner is a better design. Any of the rest of you have this experience? Very interesting, that's for sure! Who'd a thunk it??!! Last, for those that don't have one of these Little Lovelies, they get SUPER HOT in use!! I'm sure that Brother Dave, and all you other Borde owners will support that statement!! HOT, HOT, HOT!! So hot, in fact, that you cannot pick them up with your bare hand! However, by chance, I stumbled onto something useful, if you need to move your super hot little Borde: Pick it up by the spring stabilizer on the end! Cool as a cucumber, it is, and very solid and stable!! I will now use this method anytime I take these little volcanos out for an adventure!! File this tip away for future use, Lads, it WORKS! 8) All in all, I'm super tickled to have two of these neat little Borde stoves! Since I have one of the Swiss Ranger cooksets, too, all the bases have been covered, in Borde Land. I will, however, have to make a new regulating rod, as today's addition has had it's go missing. NO big deal, however. Now, I'm already wondering if I can cobble something together, in which I use both burners at once, under a large pot!! Hummmmmm....!!! 8) 8) Thanks for reading, my friends! Great find Doc. I'm going to assume that your new purchase is actually the older version of the two stoves as mine is more like your older stove,...and is all but new. Again, great find,...especially for the price.
hi Doc you just have to love those Bordes. if you flip the wire handle over so the handle is at the top it's more secure on the body i found with mine,your right there is no way your going to move it with bare hands as you said they do get scarily hot,love your new addition and the little fold up pot stand is a great bit of kit,i really need to get one of those,everyone should have at least one Borde
Oh Bugger. another stove just hit the wish list. It's getting longer and longer. The more stovers one acquires, the more one needs to get.

Hey, Guys, Thanks, very much, for the kind words! David is right, the fuel comes out of the "jet" under the needle valve. When you unscrew that flame spreader, which is connected to the valve, you open the jet up, and fuel comes out. If you've never seen a Borde being primed, before, it's a show in itself!! Stove upsidedown, flaming fuel dropping down on the ground, then when it just begins to get blue, flip it rightside up, and and away she goes!! Fun, but a bit disconcerting, especially the first time you use the Borde!! I can take photos, but not right now. Got to get back to work, unfortunately. It's sure been fun messing with this stuff again, however!! Oh, yeah, one of the SVEA's in this deal fired right up, when I snapped a used flame spreader on it!! Cool! Take care, and God Bless! Evening, Ross, and Mods, Whilst checking some photos on Borde stoves, I peeked in on my own "Brothers Borde" thread, and found: NO photos, except one, which will not open! Hummmm.....!! At least I know I'm not totally crazy.... maybe.... sort of.....well.......!! 8-[ 8-[ I will post more Borde photos, to include the new one, soon. Once again, your old photos of your early Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness trips, using your own Borde, are what convinced me to dig my first one out and start using it. I'm just glad you could get my Borde Brothers back where they belong. I'm hoping that I can add their third Borde Brother, in his finest mint condition, to this post, as well, maybe even today! Doc, You'll let me prime one? Bring the burn cream and the fire extinguisher! Quick question: How much do your Borde's weigh? For the #56 how much does it weigh without the grill/box? Seems like that with that handy-dandy wind screen these stoves might be pretty light weight winter stoves (compared to my MSR stoves).
Hi, Brian, Thanks, very much, for your kind words, Sir! The Bordes are nice little stoves, and I think, quite safe, as long as you know what you're about. In truth, that goes for ALL stoves and lanterns, don't you think?! As for videos on UTube, I have never put one on there, but you might be thinking of our CCS Brother, oops64, whose name is Robert. He hasn't been around much, lately, but is a strong participant here at CCS, and has been for years. I think he has some videos of firing up the Borde, but not me. I'd like to, though.... Hi, HJ, Now that I see that in print, it sounds horrible!! I would be honored if you would fire up one of my Bordes at the CA Stove Gathering! There, how does that sound? Better, me thinks!! As to weight, hold on, and I'll go weigh them both..... (imagine "Muzak" music playing softly in the background....) OK, I'm back. Sorry it took me so long, I had forgotten that the two original Borde Brothers were still packed, after our most recent CA Stove Gathering! Took a while to figure out just which box contained them... Borde #1, my original swap meet find, weighs 9.5 ounces, with it's adjustment rod, but no windscreen/pot support. Borde #2, which came with two SVEA 123's, and a few other small items, weighs 9.5 ounces, also with it's adjustment rod, but no windscreen/pot support. Borde #3, the "New Borde Brother", weighs just a scosh less, at 9.25 ounces, also complete with it's adjustment rod, but no windscreen/pot support. As you can see, production variances are quite small, as the two older ones have quite a few years on them, and the new one, which is current production, weighs almost exactly the same. I think that's pretty cool, actually! Later today, I'll take a few photos of the Borde Brothers, and post them in this thread. Right now, I've got to do some cleaning, then a bit of work, then the photos. As to replacing your MSR stoves with a Borde, HJ, I would rather think that the Borde would do better as an auxiliary stove, rather than a replacement. That is, unless you're planning to use a Whisperlite Internationale, in which case, toss that thing in the trash and confidently put your trust in the little Borde!!!! 8) My nasty experiences with the WL Internationale are well documented here at CCS. Whilst I think the X-GK, and all of it's family members, are fantastic stoves, and even the regular Whisperlite is OK, I think the Internationale is not to be trusted.... at least by me, anyway! Talk to you later, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. The Internationale is OK, too, AS LONG AS YOU STICK TO COLEMAN FUEL!! Despite all advertising to the contrary, the Internationale is NOT, and never has been, a true multi-fuel stove, and that fact was admitted to by a one-time stove tech at MSR, directly to me!! That fact also led to the redesign of the generator loop on that stove, which helps, but is not a real fix for it's lack of capability in burning other fuels besides Coleman fuel. MSR are now covering their bases, by listing (in the small print), that it's best to use Coleman fuel with the Intl, and to only use other fuels in emergency situations. THAT does not a multifuel stove, make, IMHO!! Sorry for the rant, but, I'm still pissed at the INTL, even after all these years!!
