i just got in trade for an old coleman lantern and coleman 550B new in the box. I thought i would ask you wise people here about the stove and if it has any "quirks" I plan on taking it and my 508 on some day hikes with me and my kids to cook up some lunch and hot cocoa thanks!
Great stove, but this is the kero/petrol stove; you need a separate generator for each. NIB stove if complete will have the petrol generator installed and the kero generator in a plastic envelope....
Hey, Suprz, Great little stove! For kero use, be sure to prime with Meths paste, under the generator, before trying to fire it up. Be sure to follow the directions, exactly, and don't skip any pumping. Also, be careful of little fingers getting burned on this one. The control knob is dangerously close to the bottom of the burner!! You might want to let the kids use the 508, and you man the 550B, just to be safe. As Ed has said, you need to swap generators between using Coleman fuel, and kerosene. Fairly easy to do, and this stove works well with either fuel. Have fun with it, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Sometimes one confuses which generator is for gas and which is for kero. One for kero has 6 notches in the middle, all around the nut that screws into the fuel tank.
Thanks for the replies! Doc, i will be careful. I got a nasty burn on the top of my hand last year from the 508 while pumping it up after lighting it. my hand was alittle too close to the bottom of the burner PS... Hey Doc, did you ever fire up that big military 2 burner you got?
